would a mil spec stock fit on a non milspec lower?

They have different threads.

j/k - a lower is a lower, at least when it comes to stocks.

military spec'/AKA Colt buffer tubes are smaller in diameter than normal tubes. as far as the lower receiver is concerned, the threads on them are all the same. so either will work, but they require an appropriately sized stock to fit and work safely.



the biggest market difference you will find is that the mil spec tubes often come with the more expensive stock setups, like VLTOR or magpul. more mainstream setups tend to favor the commercial sized tubes. but there is not much performance difference between the two.

some of the bigger companies have also started to commercialize their mil spec stocks. magpul for example, now has 2 models of CTR, standard size and milspec
