View Full Version : Any manufacturer make an off-the-shelf bolt action .223 rifle in 1 in 7 twist?

Seems like everyone only offers a 1 in 9 twist barrel. Not looking at full custom builds. It would be nice with a faster twist to shoot the heavier grain rounds....75-77 grains. I know, some people says their 1/9 will shoot these fine though.

I may be wrong but I believe you can order a Savage 10FP in a 1-7. Or is it the 12. Hmmm

Looks like it is the 12.

How heavy do you want to go? With my off the shelf 1 in 9 savage 12fv, I shoot the 75gr A-Max no problem. That bullet is much longer (requiring more stabilization) than even the 77gr SMK. You don't necessarily need a 1 in 7.

A barrel swap on a savage isn't a "full on custom build". In fact it is something you can do at home with just a few tools (which you might be able to borrow). Pick out the model that you like best in 1:9" and see how it shoots. Then get a 1:7" barrel, swap it on, and shoot some really heavy stuff.
