i saw a parkerized ruger 1022 today in big 5. anyone know anything about this? i was looking for a blued so it would match my barrel.

i dont even know if it was actually parked. it almost looked like rhino liner or something.

As far as I know there is no factory finish like you are describing and Big5 doesn't sell used or consignment.

I've never seen a park job that looked anything like bedliner.

That must be the all weather 10-22 they have advertised this week with no picture. What did you think of it I haven't been by to check it out yet.

All weather should be a stainless rifle in a black synthetic stock

Yes.. the factory offers the "textured black" surface. Parkerizized finishes usually don't result in the rhino liner look ;)

Isn't the 10/22 receiver aluminum? You can't parkerize (manganese phosphate) aluminum.

What you can do is bead blast it prior to anodizing, so it has a flat finish.

An anodized aluminum part is essentially weatherproof.

I stripped and hard-anodized my 10/22 receiver in prep for Aluma-hyde. The coloring was WAY off, but it worked like a charm and is now hidden by matte black paint.

Supposedly, it takes someone REALLY skilled in anodizing to get the hard-anno coloring right. Ruger uses an aluminum alloy that requires a little more preparation than 7075-T6 or whatever is used in your favorite AR lower.

The last 10/22 I got from Irvington Arms was marked "matte" on the box and had a wrinkle finish on the receiver, trigger housing and barrel band. The barrel has a matte "parkerized" type finish, but I think it is a paint/coating finish.

All my other 10/22's have the receiver marked "10/22 Carbine", except my WallyWorld Special with the 22" barrel that is marked "10/22 Rifle".
Curiously, the new "matte" gun just says "10/22" without a model name.

I think as of 2008 they've removed the "Carbine" "Rifle" designations from the 10/22 model. I thought I read that from now on they will all just say "MODEL 10/22"

Ruger changed the finish from the thick black paint coating to the textured finish. The receiver and trigger housing were aluminum. Now, the NEW 10/22s are shipping with the black textured finish on their receivers and a PLASTIC trigger housing that has the same textured finish. Check out the pic of the new trigger housings. Oh, and YES, they are plastic, not MIM or some other finish. I don't have to tell you which one is platic.

+1

It's a 10/22.... who cares if the trigger housing is made out of plastic or bon bons? If it's durable and shoots, it's still a good gun.

Who doesn't have an extra metal 10/22 TG laying around to put in their rifle if they so wish.

Hell, you can buy metal ones with jobs done on them for less than $100.

Still I think this is crap on Ruger's part, but hey, I already have all the 10/22s I want.

I just looked at one today at Big5, I told the guy I just wanted to see if it was plastic, and it was, I also think the barrel band and trigger are plastic too, The guy at Big5 didnt even know.

There are still a few all metal 10/22s out there. I just ordered 15 10/22s from a wholeasler that still has some old stock. Yes, the barrel band and trigger are also plastic. If it was for mounting a scope I bet they could make hte receiver plastic too.

Can anyone weigh their plastic trigger assembly , curious if its lighter , might be good for a lightweight build ? ;)

I did weigh them and the plastic was 2 or 3 oz lighter. I don't remember the weight. It is posted in a thread somewhere. I don't ahve a plastic TG now to compare with.
