While going through my deceased father's possessions, I came across a knife marked "DAVIS", and was wondering if it was an early W.C. Davis knife, or perhaps maybe a homemade affair.

I remember seeing it as early as the mid-70's, but where or how he acquired it is a mystery to me. Knowing dad, he probably traded goods or services for it.

Anyway - I sent an email to Davis Knives, but figured I post a few pictures for your enjoyment and comment. It holds a very nice edge, and from the staining on the blade appears to be some sort of high carbon steel. Take a look, and tell me what you think:

I don't know if W.C. Davis made your knife because, from the pics on the net his knives were etched on the opposite side of the blade. Your knife is stamped Davis. Please post what W.C. Davis has to say. I understand Davis was very sick a few years back.

Honesty, I don't think it is, unless it is a very early one. His web page says he started in 1971 - 72, and I know dad had this knife in the mid-70's.

Besides - the "DAVIS" stamping is crooked, and I don't think I'd ship a knife like that were it my name.

Anyways - if he answers my email, I'll be sure to share it here. Either way, it is a nice knife and holds a good edge. I've found it quite useful on more than a few hogs.
