So who wants to go? I've never been to WEGC. What is the COF going to be like?

Dang, I'm usually booked Sundays. I've heard good things about the matches down there, except for something about rear bags and shooting gloves...

You're not allowed to use rear bags.

Hey Don! Welcome to Calguns!
Its a match as far as I know. I won't be there,I'll be in Montana for a week. I don't know if BOLO will be there.
Looks like it might be a little windy.

Hey folks,
This Sunday is a match with scoring and times. June isn't that far away so why not get the practice if you plan to shoot the 2008 SCPRC. I haven't heard anything about wind, but you never know.

Sandbags, don't allow them for the match to put some more challenge in the event. Besides they don't work on some of the stages and less to carry so use a shooting glove instead.

We'll start at 0730 at the 500 yard line and go from there.

Regards Spaniard....

500 yard line? Is that what that massive new slab is for in the bay up above the .22 range? Or are you setting up at the 600 yard line and only shooting to 500 yds?

Is there a brand new slab above the 22 line where highpower has always shot from or are you talking about the one that was new a few years ago?
I thought that was the 500M line.
I think Mark has a new area cleared up on the ridge between skeet/trap and the 200M line.

The new slab is on the old Bay 1, that bay is closed for shooting. The slab is for a storage building for range equipment.
Spaniard will start on the 600 yard line.

Hey Folks,
For those of you coming out to shoot tomorrow, the 500 yard line is just above the Juniors Range (22) to the East. I know that folks call it the 600 line, but it is actually 530 yards+/- from that line to the pits, so I call it the 500.

If it makes people feel better to be a "Puff Daddy" and call it the 600 then so be it. But I call it the 500 since it is closer to 500 yards then it is to 600 yards.

We have slabs at the 200 (224 yards), 300 (315 yards) and then the 500 (530 yards) just so folks know. And if some may ask why don't we have the slabs at exactly the precise yardages, well you work with what you got when your range is in a canyon. I like West End Gun Club and when gun clubs are an endangered species in California, you work with what you have. WEGC works for me and adds a flavor of unpredictable wind and terrain, great place for a match.

Regards Spaniard,

Is the creek safe for cars, specifically a silver 95 Buick Regal? I don't care if it gets wet, I just don't want to sink it and create a navigation hazard. In the event that my old fart car can't get across, feel free to pick up a hitchhiker standing next to a silver 95 Buick Regal and carrying a guitar case.

Someone used a laser range finder and stated it was 560 yards.

Using Google Earth satellite imagery to plot the distance between the pits and the firing line indicates ~550 yards.

My zero for the long line at WEGC is about 1MOA higher than my 500 yard zero at Camp Pendleton (and 2.5 MOA lower than my 600 yard zero at Camp Pendleton).

Granted, I use 6 o'clock hold for slow fire prone and we use MR-1 targets at WEGC for the long line while the 500 yard line events I shot at Camp Pendleton use the actual MR target (true 500 yard designated target). I would guess that my zero for the long line at WEGC would be greater than 1MOA than my 500 yard zero at Pendleton if I used center hold (or if we used a true MR target instead).

That explains why I had to hold just off the 500yd hash mark to get my ACOG sighted AR to hit the big square plate on the occaision that I shot from that pad. :)

We had a pistol match today (Saturday) at West End and 2 shooters driving Toyota Camrys made it in with no problems.

Precision Bolt Rifle Match at WEGC was cancelled today, Cameron jinxed us with the wind call, thanks Cam.

Between that and people forgetting to roll the clocks forward it wasn't meant to be. Me and the kid went to handguns so it wasn't a completely "smokelss day".

We had 4 shooters show but it was mess with the wind. We got back and still as could be, oh well.

Next month.

I guess I chose wisely when I decided to shoot the LESA match at Raahauges today.
It was windy as all hell, but that's OK for pistols and shotguns on steel plates. ;)

Can somebody give me a good description of what the wind conditions are usually like at WEGC?

Yes.. I'll have to go out and see.. but it doesn't hurt to go with a bit more info :)

Between 5 and 50mph, constantly changing directions.
Multiple features in the land make the wind value change with distance.

Saturday afternoon at 2:00 when I was sighting in my 700, it was 5-12 from 7:00 on the front firing line.

between the 500 yard pad and the pit the wind will be full value L to R on the line, swirling at about 300, 1/2 value R-L kicking up dust at the pit.
