Just got email from NRA about Obama's nomination for Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy.
The man is an anti-gun advocate.
The NRA email references a letter sent to Congress by an organization cofounded by Murthy called Doctors for America.
Found the letter and here's a link:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.drsforamerica.org/images/DFA_Gun_Violence_Congressional_Letter.pdf
Most of it reads like standard anti-gun rhetoric.
The part that intrigues me is toward the end, where the group writes about undoing restrictions on doctor-patient communication.
Florida had a law preventing doctors from questioning patients about gun ownership and the organization challenged it.
The battle was dubbed "docs vs. Glocks" by Florida media.
Other states have similar laws, the letter suggests.
So, I'm wondering what doctors on Cal Guns think of such laws.
Seems to me that there should be no restriction on what doctors discuss with patients.
And that any disclosure that deliberately violates doctor/patient confidentiality should be punished, very severely.
Discussing guns with patients might be needed to understand environmental health and risk factors.
For instance, a patient might be prescribed medication that shouldn't be mixed with shooting.
So, am I missing something?
Doctors for America is anti-gun and I don't agree with most of what they have to say on firearms.
But isn't unrestricted communication between doctors and patients a good thing?
It's possible that anti-gun doctors would collect data and the organization might use it to make correlations supporting anti-gun measures.
Sure.
But data collection is part of science and those findings can be challenged by other researchers.
That's how science works in theory, right?
Anyway, what do you think about this?

Good link OP. Weakening medical privacy laws and attempting backdoor gun registries and confiscations on the grounds of "public health" is the main thrust of Obama's "executive actions"

Hey doc, I have some residual pain from a deep sea boating accident, in which every gun I ever owned was eaten by Cthulhu

I'd encourage everyone to use Gun Owners of America's Take Action section
and use their form to send a letter to Feinstein and Boxer (or your Senator if out of CA)

Here's the link:

I am more qualified to be Surgeon General than this guy because I played Doctor as a child.

Full disclosure: I am not only not a miracle worker, I'm also not a surgeon although my avatar played one on TV; I don't remember the name of the girl I played Doctor with ... oh now I do. Nevermind.

Best!

He will not be confirmed. Even the Democrats are afraid of him and what their support will do to their re-election.

Another Obama 'appointee' was scratched last week, by the Dems!

Looks like my prediction has come true.

The Murthy nomination is dead, but it's not deader now than it was a week ago. I don't see anywhere that either he or the White House has withdrawn his name.
