NorCal v SoCal Team Match

Location - A Place to Shoot, Saugus, California will host the 2008 event and all even years thereafter. Sac will host next year and all odd years thereafter.

Date - September 27 & 28, 2008

Time - Sign in will begin at 1500 on the 27th, with a mandatory safety briefing beginning at 1600. The first COF of the match will go hot at 1700 and the first day should end by 2200. The second day (Sept 28) will begin with check in at 0700 and then commence at 0730 and run through 1200. The shooting stages will be followed by a cookout commencing at 1230, and this will be followed by the awards ceremony around 1330.

Number of competitors - Each team will consist of 12 shooters divided into two 6 man squads, with each squad consisting of three two man fire teams. The captain for the NoCal team will be Vu and I will captain the SoCal team. In addition to the 12 team members each team captain will be allowed to designate up to four alternates in the event of last minute changes in shooters availability.

Cost - $100.00 per shooter. This fee will include the match, use of the ranges at APS on the 27th and 28th before and after the match, a t-shirt and the cookout. Registration sheets will be distributed to the team captains who will then be responsible for having the same completed and returned with all fees by May 1, 2008.

Equipment - Bolt action rifle of 30 cal or less with a max muzzle vel of 3100 fps measured at 10’. Muzzle brakes are allowed, however, suitable blast pads will be required. One of the two squads in each team must all use a .308, with the other squad being allowed to use any caliber meeting the requirements.

There will be no minimum trigger pull. However, all rifles must pass a safety inspection at time of sign in which will include a “drop test” wherein the butt of the rifle will be hit on a hard surface while the weapon is cocked with the safety off. If the rifle fires when struck it will not be allowed in the competition.

Bipods, packs, rucks, etc. will be allowed as front rest in prone unless otherwise notified for a particular COF. Sandsocks will be allowed as rear rests. No BR style front rests, commercial shooting sticks, monopods, or BR style rear rests will be allowed.

Additional information will be provided with the registration packets including suggested lodging etc.

WTF - Over? I thought we agreed on 2.0lbs minimum. What's the matter some of your boys got weak fingers?

Should guidlines be set up to allow for spectators to promote the discipline and more future shooters?

We already allow on lookers per se. It would be very hard to set up a formal spectator area but they are allowed non-the less

They are working on some new stuff, when you get your 338 running go and do that. Its worth that money you will LEARN alot! Its 5 days long. He goes threw everything to make those extreme range shots. Did you get some 300gr SMKS? In this case berger is coming out with some VLDS that are going to have Bc's in the low .9s or high .8s.

Wildcard, and Pete should go shooting more. Pete you have my modile number call me up when you want to go. I have an SUV we can fill up with ALOT of stuff!

I have proposed this before when I first starting shooting out of actual curiosity. Aside from it being forbidden when asked, it would probably be considered "gaming" and borderline cheating if done discreetly.

Aside from that, distances are usually known. If they were UKDs, it would obviously be cheating because it's called a UKD stage for a reason!

After I get my 338 built i'll probably have to do a little bit of learning. I couldn't imagine it being a whole new learning curve compared to shooting ~1000 yds, but I guess i'll find out once I try. The science is the same.. just that the numbers are different. Thanks for the heads up though.

Yeah, I picked up some 300 gr SMKs.. costed quite a few pennies. While the VLDs have a VERY impressive BC, I only fear that they'll be too finicky for tactical/ practical match use. I'd rather not have to mess with the bullet length, mag length, seating into the lands, etc if I don't have to. Good to know though.

Heck, we should all head out to shoot more but definitely more with our respective partners if possible! Let's get some 2 vs 2 action going :)

Would it be wrong if I confiscated the LRF and radio and used them to zero Savannah at 100 or better yet we need some more radios and a better LRF at the range. In other words the answer is no not unless you want them confiscated and you DQ'd

Whichever way we do it, the sooner you have the rifle to practice with the better. Is the barrel ready for your ftr build?

Um no. I ordered it in the Rock GB. Randy has the stock and all parts needed. We are waiting on the barrel. It will weight same as my 30-06 but will sit in my mak chassis.

Bill whats your call?

30-06 is close enough to 308. You guys up north wont know what im using.

I allready have my 30-06 done and am going out thursday with it to fire a lot of rounds after school!

One squad has to be full out 308 and one unlimited. 308s can shoot on the unlimited squad but I want to fill the 308 squad. Its OK . . . the Bauder's both shoot 308s so I'll move them to Squad I and Kerr / Bacon to squad II. Cool

Provided there aren't any dueling stages where my lowly 308 has to directly compete with an open gun, its cool.

just keep it under 3100fps.

Perhaps we should lower the maximum velocity to 3000fps to keep out the light/fast bullet cartridges.

Your 308 will give up nothing - the open aspect of this is only in caliber with a 30 cal limit and max of 3100 mv. You'll be fine.

No need for they may find themselves handicapped if it won't topple the steel.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't running time on UKD targets against a flat little 243 or something. Having falling targets will tend to keep things level.

How much lighting is there at night?
Is it just the benches and perhaps the 100yd line or will you be able to see the far steel too?

I just swapped scope mounts and need to go re-zero.
Anyone else up for tomorrow night around 7:30?

Follow the way of the internet.
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, baffle 'em with bull.

I'd really like to know if anyone has shot on a wednesday evening and could tell me what the lighting situation is like.
Would I realistically be able to get a proper 100yd zero, or is it only the handgun line that's lit up?
