what does one have to do to get a rifle into his name? they got the gun from an old friend in the 90's but never did the transfer. do they do the gun ownership form along with the 19 dollars. thats about all i found on the doj web site for something like this. the gun was bought new and there are no issue that come with the gun, so he just needs to figure out how to get into his name. oh and we cannot get a hold of jack the origanal owner because he moved to texas or someplace like that.

The DOJ paperwork is only for handguns. I don't recall the date but they may have been legitimately doing a FTF transfer. FYI, long guns are only kept in the 4473 and not in a system like handguns where they are ran through AFS.

There is no "getting a rifle in your name" concept. Not as far as the CA DOJ.

when exactly? Prior to a certin date, PPTs didn't have to go thru an FFL.

There really is not such a thing as getting a long gun 'into someone's name'. There is no title or registration for longguns. (there absolutely IS for HANDGUNS however!)
