hey guys, i just placed my order this past week for a FAR50 upper.
-Far50 chambered in 510 dtc
-24" barrel
-od green furniture

just wondering what set up you guys are running (or planning on running) as far as stocks, grips, scopes and such go. also, i was wondering if i should change my order to the 30" barrel.

i plan on running either a PRS stock or Vltor modstock w/ an ergo tactical grip w/ palm shelf. as far as my scope goes, i'm gonna go with a SS 16x or 20x scope.

now i'm hoping that the 3-4 months goes by quickly! :D

I'm using a PRS and a SS 20x. Love it. Here is my last range report, but there are plenty out there. If you get to San Diego, let me know and you can check out mine

thanks for the offer! i saw your thread on arfcom a couple of days ago while doing research on the far50. i also went through all 36-odd pages about the bohica far50 on arfcom. can't wait... did you get the 24" upper or the 30" upper? any tips on which one i should get?

Yes, I used a 6 rnd 12ga sidesaddle. It works well.

Probably something simple, maybe an A-2 stock and Hogue grip....most of the budget for this rifle will be going into the optic.....

thx! i read on arfcom that some people were hesitant on using a sidesaddle stating that the rounds would fall out upon recoil. nice to see that the sidesaddles work.

MustangO4
02-27-2008, 1:24 PM
Yea, they stay in, but you have to put them tip DOWN so gravity works with you, I also attached it with straps vise screws so it moves a little and doesn't strain the screws as well as not making holes in the handguard.

It's some paint I bought on base, but basically krylon.

Waiting for mine to ship. I went with a 30" barrel. Will be using a 16x SS scope, Magpul PRS stock, DPMS tactical grip, 2 stage RRA trigger. I also ordered the YHM adaptor nut so I'll be replacing the handguard with the railed YHM version. I'm also going to try out Bohica's PRS recoil pad however Chris said they are still not done yet due to the upper delays.

If you want to shoot it off front and rear rests, I'd look at the ALS rear stock. Also, all you guys with DTCs and BMGs should consider joining the FCSA. It's really the best $40 that you can spend on 50s.

+1 It is also a great forum and good magazine. I have to say I was initially put off at having to pay to get on a forum, but it is worth it and prevents a lot of the silliness you get on free forums from trolls, spam and the like. Plus, they give a military discount!

i was planning on joining as soon as the upper got to me... unfortunately i'm debating on what the best type of rifle would be for me at this moment: FAR50 or R700 308... well i'll have 4 months to think about it.

Most of the guys and girls are pretty good about keeping on topic and not filling the FCSA forum with a lot of trash. Then there are the moderators......

Ain't that the truth ;) However, I don't mind waiting while Chris fixes the mfg. issues. It IS the first run of the MkII. I'm sure things will pick up after all the initial setup bugs get worked out.

I keep hearing that :D I'll be joining after I get my upper and actually get to start shooting. Is it a one time or annual membership fee?

$40/year or $100/3 years. Membership allows you to access the members only forum, gets you quartely issues of VHP (Very High Power) magazine, a current FCSA suppliers guide, A FCSA match rule book, etc. Also, to shoot an FCSA sanctioned match, you need to be a current member. Could I persuade you to join by offering to let you shoot one of my rifles at a match outside of Reno this April? I'd want to be compinsated for ammo but, that's it. If you or anyone else is serious (including you, Blue) about entering into the world of 50s, I'll try to help in whatever way I can.

Thanks for the offer. I should hopefully have my 50 soon and will be joining FCSA.

I think the new brake looks sweet but I wonder how efficient it is. I'm getting pretty excited from those pics :D

I've been waiting since December for my 30" version in .50DTC. Glad to see that my patience paid off in not ordering one right away.

Anyone know what the expected wait time is for his more recent orders?

Pretty much the same logic I applied here. Though the trick was to wait long enough for some of the initial kinks to get worked out, but not too long, as the price he's selling them for now is still "introductory."

As far as I know Chris's still selling them for a pretty low price, so I suppose I could have waited a little longer. I think I'll be satisfied with a Mk II however. :)

When they first was announced, the intro price was something like $899. I was suppose to get mine for $950 (including DTC and 30" barrel). I ended up paying the current price but I don't mind. I'm just happy to finally get it :D

I ended up paying like $1033 shipped with a Bohica hat.

Question for current FAR-50 owners: Do you guys know if the FAR-50 ha a tapered rail? In other words, has a built-in angle to it?

I'm pretty sure there is no built in angle. Chris is suppose to be coming out with a sloped rail or rail adaptor down the road. It was one of the reasons he went with a steel rail.
