All,

So last Summer I picked up a used Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 scope from a member here and mounted it to my old Mauser 1909 Argentino that had been "sporterized" to 30.06. The rifle had been my deer/pig rifle back in Oklahoma and with most of the shots in the 50-yard range (with a cheap Bushnell 4x scope) it worked well. However, once I put a decent optic on it and tried to start pushing it distance-wise I quickly learned that it was barely minute of barn door. So that put me on the hunt for a new .30 caliber rifle.

Considering how much I love my AR-15's, I was immediately drawn to the idea of an AR-10 pattern rifle. However, I wasn't really satisfied with the various options out there at the time. But last November I heard that JP Rifles was building a .308 they were calling the LRP-07 (Long Range Precision of 2007). As happy as I am w/ my JP-15, I immediately placed my order.

Now after a 3 month wait, I finally picked up my new toy this morning. Also, I've already ordered a LaRue SPR mount to cantilever the scope further out. In the pics I just slapped on a set of low rings I had in the closet because it just looked funny w/o an optic on it.

The MMG fits just fine. There is a bit of a gap between the stock and fin because of the larger lower but I can't figure out how anyone could develop a pistol-style grasp.

So anyway, here are the pics

Looks great!

That scope is sitting really low. Have you tested out the position of it yet with proper cheek weld? Just curious. It looks like taller rings may be a better fit.

Yeah, those rings are definitely too low (I just grabbed a set I had in my closet for the pics - rifle looked funny w/o any optic at all). I've ordered one of these:

What mags do they use? The tank break looks good.

It uses SR-25/DPMS mags. I like the brake too. I was nervous at first as I thought it would be huge but it's not that crazy. Can't wait to fire it to see how well it works.

I'll warn you now, that brake is going to make enemies with whoever is sitting next to you.

That is sweet, I want one.

Been thinking of trading my springfield scout in for money towards something similar. Is there a reason you didn't go with an ar10?

Its actually not that bad. I shot a lot with Wildcard and he has one on his PSS. Not that bad at all. Recoil is non-existent.

Armalite AR10's are banned by name, so it's either Fulton, Vulcan/Hesse, POF and now JP.

JP makes the best stuff out of all of them IMO.

Not sure. Rt now the website says complete rifles only. Maybe once they get caught up on orders?

Congrats, I also almost placed an order when they were still in the design process. I hope to one day.

So the one thing I'm real curious about is the side charging handle on this. That is a bit of innovation from what JP claims but I'm indifferent on whether the standard Armalite/DPMS charging handle vs the side charging handle is any better.

What are your thoughts as you've gained some experience with it? Does the side charging handle move with the BCG upon firing? Is it comfortable to charge? If you could go back, would you have preferred a regular charging handle setup?

That scope came on a savage 10FPHS I bought. I took it out a few weeks after buying it, see how it shot "used/new to me" condition, no sight in, just shoot at the target @ 100 yards and see where they fly. Blam!, holy sh@t....thats right where I was aiming......blam!, did it go off paper. I don't see it......oh, it went in the other hole....needless to say I was hyped on this buy. That thing looks sick my friend....:D
