Looking for a complete Colt upper.

More specifically; an M4 upper with 14.5" barrel but no FA stuff.

I'd prefer to buy from a seller who can permanently attach a 2" G6 Smith Vortex flash hider.

Just to double check, using a fixed mag configuration and an overall barrel length of 16", this is deemed legal, correct?

Thanks!

What's the difference between LOWER REC. PARTS KIT, COLT, (0.155), SEMI (http://www.specializedarmament.com/products/LOWER_REC_PARTS_KIT_COLT_0_155_SEMI-262-4.html) and LOWER REC. PARTS KIT, COLT, (0.170), SEMI (http://www.specializedarmament.com/products/LOWER_REC_PARTS_KIT_COLT_0_170_SEMI-263-4.html) ?

.155 and .170?

Ah, I see. Thanks for the links and info!

And yes, quite the sticker shock! Maybe I can find a used one on gunbroker or something...

Why not get the M16 bolt carrier? Its perfectly legal.

It's my CYA policy...

Colt sells their uppers complete so I doubt you'll be able to get one without the M16 carrier. Replacing the colt BGC kind of negates the point of buying the colt upper since all their parts are made to mil-spec.

I always recommend folks to use a true muzzle brake or fake FH for their bbl extending device to get up to 16" min legal bbl length.

That way, they have the option of using a fixed mag setup w/evil features OR transition to a MonsterMan grip or U15 stock.

Most folks simply don't need a FH.

Since you're looking for a Colt, you're apparently not looking to save money.

You could perchance find some uppers on AR15.COM Equip Exchg forum that are lightly used or are takeoffs by a vendor.

You also could get a Noveske N4 "light carbine basic upper" w/regular handguards (i.e, no railed FF forearm):

This is one of the few uppers out there that would always meet (and exceed in some areas) Colt in quality.

If you're looking for a Colt 14.5"->16" upper, I'd recommend the 6921HB version. Those don't have the 'gov't profile' contour under the handguards but are still of a manageable weight (i.e, not a true heavy bull barrel).

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to go to Noveske instead, it's certainly a lot cheaper!
