I have put about 250 rounds through my BB2 equipped retro AR with a Colt SP1 upper/Stag lower that I purchased last month. At about 225 rounds today I popped in a fresh mag and fired one round, on the next pull of the trigger all I got was the dreaded click.

I put the rifle down for a few minutes facing down range and then pulled back the charging handle.......there was no round in the chamber. I went to release the mag and found that the BB2 had come apart. The little collar inside the hole had unscrewed itself completely releasing the catch and allowing the mag to slip down in the lower. If my magwell was a little bit looser, the mag probably would have dropped:eek:. I screwed the button back together and all was well. I suppose that it might be a good procedure to check the tightness of this every hundred rounds or so.

Yes, I'll do that. The BB2 came installed in the lower from the dealer so I ASSumed that it was correct. :kest:

I did not receive the BB2 instructions with the lower. Now I know, thanks.

Loctite or a visual inspection of the BB to make sure it doesn't back out is recommended in the installation instructions.

just make sure you use only a little loctite and be carefull not to get it any where other than the threads.;)

You should read Pat Rogers' maintenance article in SWAT magazine.

I disassembled/reassembled the BB2 this morning with a little blue threadlocker. Simple!

I should have done this when I received the complete lower with BB2 pre-installed but I didn't realize this was necessary. Thanks.
