Is this BS? Can we not have a threaded barrel now (ie for muzzle brakes) in the state on long guns?

Where are you getting your info???

Yes, your information is BS. Threaded barrels on rifles are not regulated in any CA law.

It's pure FUD, but I have heard it from FFLs.

I hear just about every variation of every possible thing out there.

Gun shop urchins and FFLs love to dazzle you with their depth of knowledge. It's a puddle.

I overheard it at a gunshow a couple of months ago (a vendor talking to a customer). I waited until he got done talking to the guy and left and then I mentioned to the guy that the vendor was full of BS. I told the guy to check out CalGuns for information and he thanked me.

Hi Mark, if you ever logged on.

Mis-information from people who should know better.
I think they have their wires crossed and still think its a hold over from the Federal ban that sunsetted. I hear this junk all the time and just shake my head.

Not current, but proposed Federal legislation (HR1022) does list a threaded barrel as one of the "bad features".

So it ain't a problem yet. But if HR1022 (and isn't that a really, really ironic name?) isn't defeated, threaded barrels are going to be a problem in the future.

I know most of you are familiar with HR1022. For those who aren't, it's a real attempt to ban everything we know and hold dear. Worse than the California AW laws...much worse. Here's a Thomas link: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c110:1:./temp/~c11083cAZa::

Feel free to contact Our Dear Senators...and good luck with that.

We can't "defeat" HR1022 because it's not even out of committee and has ZERO chance of seeing the light of day (as long as we're relatively vigilant). The composition of House/Senate has actually improved, pro-gun-wise, since the 2006 elections and will likely stay in the same relative balance over the next several years (or even improve).

Some of the really really bad things (not that there's any good thing) in HR1022 were likely thrown in as 'bait' to be negotiated away.

Most people with misconceptions about threaded bbls have them not due to any knowledge of HR1022, but because they've confused elements of the old '94 Fed AWB with Calif's SB23 AW ban, and also may not have realized the Fed AW ban has sunset (expired) in Sept 2004.
