So my 16yr old son made me a cleaver for Christmas for butchering hogs. dang thing is sharp enough to shave hairs off my arm, now we'll see how it holds up to some abuse. Got two hogs to butcher next month.
Not bad for his first serious project. I was truly stoked to get it....

He did a nice job on it. The fit on the handle material is well done.

How heavy is it?

It should be pretty heavy to chop meat and bone.

It's a beast. I'm going to have to buy a good block. It would easily take a leg joint with little effort. Pity the fool who gets his fingers in the way.

I like seeing projects with a practical use.

It looks like you'll get a lot of use out of it.

My father made this about 60 years ago out of a leaf spring. He was a blacksmith . We used it to butcher hogs and after he passed I cut and split many game with it.

I'm impressed. Very nice, period, much less for a 16yo.
