AB50 does NOT ban the .50BMG cartridge and only bans centerfired RIFLES chambered for it, as said on your Feb 2008 issue of THE FIRING LINE on page 2:

"the governor's signing a few years ago of the senseless ban of the 50 BMG cartridge and firearms in which it can be discharged..."

sigh...

that you sent them the same message on their web site.

That way they can improve their "award winning montly 'magazine', "The Firing Line"".

Not sure it'll happen instantly but there have been some changeovers at upper mgmt level of CRPA. I'm hopeful that they'll evolve into something useful.

If they move on from their lobbying efforts w/Kathy Lynch & Gerry Upholt they'll really be moving ahead.

Understand that orig CRPA mgmt was some older CA NRA types that were moved aside when NRA became more aggressive * politically focused after Wayne LaPierre took over. These guys were fairly old guard, and were used to old ways of doing things - manual bookkeeping, etc. So expecting them to be able to keep facts straight in a newsletter is a bit of a reach.

In this case I DO expect them to get it right. This incorrect statement was written in the "Legislative Watch" column by none other than Upholt ...CRPA's legislative liaison. I demanded a public retraction in their next letter. Not holding my breath for it.

Aww geez, expecting correct material from Upholt or Lynch?

It's gonna be wrong - either due to their incompetence, or because they had to say something to mask their incompetence.

They were at the CAFR meeting at SHOT Show (Wes @ 10% wrote about it) and Kathy Lynch kept saying Arnie signed 1471 & 821 "because he's married to a Kennedy".

Bill, is there any way we can sticky this post and somehow talk you into providing updates to the managerial changes over at CRPA? Seems as though you're in the loop over there.

I know many of us would be interested in supporting another organization who lobbied Sacramento on behalf of CA firearms enthusiasts. If they can get their act together and form an agenda based on member participation, i.e., issues important to actual members and not self-serving issues dependent upon the highest bid winner, I wouldn't hesitate to support them again.

Regardless, I think it's great news that they're making changes. Hopefully it becomes obvious to us.

I do not know all the changes in detail, and just know that an evolution is underway. I think we can hope for progress - in a kind of Reaganesque "trust but verify" situation. Some o

The CRPA itself, replacing some of its outdated leadership, is far less of a problem than its contract lobbyists. The whole Kathy Lynch/Gerry Upholt lobbying situation is really more complex than just CRPA - because they touch gun issues not just for CRPA but for CAFR + NSSF & some sporting orgs, etc.

I would hope Kathy Lynch & Gerry Upholt eventually NEVER TOUCH A GUN/HUNTING/SPORTS ISSUE AGAIN in California.

Hell, maybe Kathy Lynch and her apparent boyfriend Gerry Upholt can form an "antilobbying" biz, kinda a 'remittance man' scheme - where we pay them to stay away and not screw up things.

IIRC, Kathy Lynch's smallish lobbying firm made ~$500+K in 2005 from a variety of interests - with a fair proportion of the biz in non-gun/non-sporting realms. Out of that - after office payments, a staffer or two, etc. - I'm guessing she probably took home $150K - $225K - perhaps less, but having the biz itself maybe pay for nice cars & biz trips to nice places. Probably enough income for a bit of Geritol & Viagra for her boyfriend Gerry.
