'I can put six in a torso at 15 feet'
It's no secret that Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata has a history of packing heat. But is he any good?
"I'll never be a Green Beret, but I can put six in a torso at 15 feet," wrote the Oakland Democrat in a 2006 license renewal letter reminiscent of a Sam Spade soliloquy.
See Perata's letter for yourself here. (http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/capitolalertlatest/LETTER.jpg)
Perata may have let the license expire, but he says he's still got aim. "I've been taking my frustrations out" at the range," the senator said Monday.
For years, Perata has held a license to carry a concealed weapon issued by the Alameda County Sheriff. In a 1999 application letter, Perata stated that his public policy efforts fighting assault weapons have angered individuals "who have made overt threats on my life and the well-being of my family."
According to the senator's latest renewal letter dated Dec. 27, 2006, Perata returned to carrying a .38 Colt revolver because "it is the least conspicuous." The letter was obtained from the Sheriff's Department under a Public Records Act request.
Perata had been planning to let his license expire but had a change of heart after launching an anti-gang initiative in his Oakland district.
"I hadn't intended to renew, but my latest activities in the 'hoods have caused me to rethink my position," the senator wrote to outgoing Sheriff Charles Plummer. Gregory Ahern is now Alameda's sheriff.
Generally, concealed weapon licenses are rare. Applicants must show they are of good moral character and need protection. They also must pass a firearms proficiency test.
Perata wrote that he has kept up his firing skills at a friend's 10-acre spread in Grass Valley.
Two days after Perata wrote his letter, Plummer reissued his license for two years on condition that he pass a range test. Perata said he never took that test, allowing the license to lapse.
"If something happens again, I'll rethink it," Perata said.

Gee maybe if he didn't infringe on the rights of the Citizens of the Corporate State they wouldn't threaten him.
I would expect to be threatened if I attempted to take the rights away from people.
Not that I'm suggesting such a thing as I'm sure that would be not only illegal but against board rules but if politicians that violated our constitutional rights were removed from office in this manner I have a feeling that the others left in office wouldn't tread on our constitutional rights.
That is if they were smart enough to see outside of their little world and understand why Joe Politician was removed not that this would be the case.

how racist...
"my activities in the 'hood"...
I thought they always said self defense was not a valid reason for a CCW. Looks like it was good enough for Don the Dipstick.

Apparently self defense is good enough for him, but not for us. Typical elitist hypocrite.

Actually, that's more "elitist" or "class bigot," not racist. Wouldn't doubt he's racist though judging his speech.

Gotta love it: "I'll never be a Green Beret, but I can put six in a torso at 15 feet," wrote the Oakland Democrat in a 2006 license renewal letter reminiscent of a Sam Spade soliloquy.
Most of us could probably do that with our eyes closed at 15 feet.

Of Good Moral Character? Disregarding the FBI investigation and raid on his house, the fact that he wants to disarm the masses while asking for a CCW to protect himself should be a disqualifying factor for Parata.

Do you recall the private Schwartzenegger tapes last year in which he referred to Perata as "sick". I never got the feeling he was talking about his health and Perata's tepid response along the lines of "gee I feel fine" make me think that even more so. Just a gut feeling, but I think there's something quite out of whack with the fellow - he probably deviates from the norm in some interesting ways.

I am totally against threating the life of any public official, regardless of their position on the 2nd A RKBA.
Now, if you were to ask me whether a politician who is actively undermining our RKBA should be tarred and feathered, well, I'd just have to think about that for awhile. ;)

ROFL, no kidding. 15 feet? You better be able to keep 6/6 (he doesn't say out of how many! It's probably 6/15...) in a pretty tight group at 5 yards.

The bible takes a strong stance on killing. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy on the subject of kneecaps.
If you recognized that quote, you are a true nerd. We should hang out.:p

I think the Bible is referring to murder not killing. I to am against any threat on an elected official.

And I don't condone or practice threatening public officials myself but,
isn't the whole idea behind the 2nd ammendment to provide enough of a threat to keep them honest(obviously we are failing at that)?

Maybe it was 15 yards, which is tougher, but, still doable. He should join a league and practice out to 25 yards. That is more of a challenge (for me at least).

Perata is another example of imbalance. Everyone needs self-protection.
"Because when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”
Sadly, he's been ensconced for years.......

I should hope most people capable of walking upright and breathing on their own would be able to manage that feet of marksmanship.
