I saw something like that at budk, and in their catalog. Almost bought it, by decided to spend my limited funds on ammo instead. If money were no object, I'd probably pick one up just for fun.

The United Cutlery advertisement on youtube is a hoot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdh7xPn7VQc
it looks like an interesting Jo sized spear

But if you want a quality spear i would go with the Assagei,
6' is selling for about $60 free shipping
this a great blade with a secure-ex sheath

Looks ok, but having not held one i wouldnt buy one. I can reccomend the cold steel assegai or Boar spear though.

The boar spear is a little on the gigantic side, but the assegai is slightly more weildable.

Both are meant for actual use and can take an enourmous beating. Watch the cold steel videos

I do, it's a cold Steel Bushman. I have it mounted on an oak broom handle I got at Home Depot.
It's cheep but effective.

I have a Masai one I picked up in Kenya. It would get the job done ;)

United Cutlery is not know for quality. That video was amusing but not impressive. I'd buy one if I thought I would ever be surrounded by rabid half full soda bottles.

I do have a Cold Steel assegai. Great spear. I will eventually get their Samburu. I really like it's design.

Check the Cold Steel website for the next Cold Steel Challenge. IIRC Lynn Thompson calls the Samburu "The 300 Winchester Magnum of spears". Got a chance to throw one during a Cold Steel Challenge in Ventura.

Another fan of the Cold Steel Assegai (both lengths) and the Cold Steel Boar Spear here. I've not run into anything worthy of the boar spear's attention but the Assegai has a proven kill record - two rattlesnakes that found their way onto my neighbor's patio. Clean kills and the dings in the blade from hitting a stone wall were remedied with a whetstone in short order.

I saw it at the Costa Mesa gun show. It's very short. IMHO , it's too short.

It wouldn't keep something at a distance for long. One technique against spear is to block with one hand, grab with the other, close the gap and strike(or stab). That gap is even shorter with this spear.

I've seen conduit with a sharpened gate hing connected with metal screws that was cheaper and as strong. A friend went D.I.Y.

I have an assortment of metal working tools, a vivid imagination, and Viking blood flowing through my veins...

I'm sure I could come up with something pointy to put on the end of a stick :)

Bah.

All you need is a Mosin with a bayonet and you have the perfect spear.

Want a bigger one? Get Trapdoor with the socket bayonet.

On a more serious note, a cold steel one would not be too bad.

You should see their CEO's spear fail while hunting a Cape Buffalo. Epic!

Oh man, I've been wanting a halberd or a pike for ages! Seen them online but have no idea of quality so before I spend a couple C-Notes, I'd love to handle one.

YEAH BABY!
