Tactical / Precision Rifle Match
Feb 23, 2008

A Place to Shoot in Saugus, CA will be having its monthly Tactical / Precision Rifle Match of 2008 on Saturday, February 23, 2008. Registration will begin at 0700 and the first stage will begin at 0730. The match should run until approximately 1200.

The match will consist of approximately five or six different courses of fire (depending on time and number of participants) and will be a combination of precision shooting and tactical application and the ranges will vary between 100 and 900 yards. There will be a combination of reactive targets, paper and steel that range is size from 1 MOA to 3 MOA for the given range depending on the course of fire.

This match is primarily designed for the Precision Bolt Action Rifle, however, if you own a hunting rifle or semi-auto with good optics and feel capable of its performance and accuracy, feel free to participate.

There is some movement during the stages, and targets will be engaged from various field positions in whatever shooting position is necessary to insure a clear shot and in some cases concealment while taking the shot.

The fee for the match will be $25.00 for early registration, $30.00 for match day walk-ons. Plaques and certificates will for awarded to the top three finishers and a medal will be awarded to the top shooter in the 100 - yard dot drill. This is limited to 20 competitors so pre-registration is suggested. If you’re interested in registering or have any questions either PM me through this forum or email me directly at billerwin@msn.com.

Looking pretty grim for me. Got that Saturday class now and i'd hate to miss one of the earlier classes.. especially if Peter ain't there to represent or take notes either!

Any plans for a night match in the future?

Well, besides that saturday being the last day of my Demolition Derby build (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=86369),
I can't find any excuses nearly as good as everyone else so I'll probably just go to the match.

M1A should be fine, but don't you have an AE? That would be best.

My AE only holds 5 rounds per mag & I only have 4 magazines.
at that distance I think I need as much help as possible. I don't wanna run out of bullets?:kest:

You only get 3 shots on the first stage. I can only think of a couple times were I've had to reload during a stage. But there was a mandatory reload for everyone, regardless of mag capacity. 80% of the people that shoot that match all have 4 round internal mags anyway. Twolf sometimes has a "no more than 5 rounds in the gun" rule. You will not be at a disadvantage with the 5 round mag on the AE. If anything, you'll have an advantage over most.

Bring the AE - rarely if ever does a stage go more than ten rounds (and I mean rarely as in never) and in all stages where there is more than 5 rounds there is a mandatory reload to make it even for the top stuffers.

You'll find my matches are more about making the first round count and less about burning a barrel. That said in most of my matches, if you cleaned every stage you'd fire less than 20 rounds.

3100 fps is generally my rule of thumb. Above that I need to know what you're shoot and the bullet.

At the last match, I fired 14 rounds to complete the match.

Worked at the range today to make preparations for tomorrows match. We will have some new COFs as well as some new locations that I’m sure will peak y’alls interest. The ground is good though a little soft in places but overall the shooting areas are in good shape.

The forecast for tomorrow is “A mix of clouds and sun in the morning followed by cloudy skies during the afternoon. High around 60F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph.” That said though I did make contingencies in case of rain just as I did last month. Hence we are a go and will shoot rain or shine.

See y’all in the morning.

We worked on the Derby car ALL day, only to have the alternator lead fry when it melted on to the exhaust manifold.
Nothing like last minute repairs and welding in the rain.
We quiit at 12:45 tonight and the car is ready to drive on to the trailer tomorrow morning.
