Now this is what I call a job perk. I wonder if they take part-time employees during the holiday season?

Staff Machine Gun Shoot featuring rental machine guns at our Ogden, UT location December 30, 2007.

The video is embedded on their homepage too.

The size and amount of the brass coming out of the m14 is just unreal.

Nice of them to take a jab at California at the beginning of the video...

Seems they only know how to empty mags rather then go for accuracy :D

Once I wrote an email to impact guns asking about getting an SKS (no grenade doohicky, no detachable mag). They rudely "informed" me that SKS rifles are illegal in California.

$0.17 per round, 600RPM....

They may not know s#!t about CA guns laws, but they certainly do know how to throw a holiday party with lots of fireworks.

Now I need to peruse their webpages so I know which M1A to ask my local shop to order.

Watch this video again and note the following:
The ones that actually know how to shoot machine guns can be seen holding on to the handguard forward of the magazine.
The ones that don't know how to shoot machine guns will be seen holding the front of the magazine well.

Having never shot a full auto before I have no place to criticize, but would guess the mag holders probably shoot all their rifles that way. Given the opportunity I would love to try and keep that M14 from veering up and to the right though. Looks unwieldy. The only way you know the P90 if firing is because you can hear it and see the round disappearing from the magazine.

Mostly from ignorance of never having had someone show them how much more stable it is to move your hand forward more.
Whenever people demonstrate a magwell hold in my shop, I give a very simple 5 second demonstration that cures them instantly.

a magwell hold has its benefits, at least in semi auto carbines, as it does distribute the weight better when you're firing at targets that are at close range. i wouldnt recommend it for everything, but it has its uses - just as firing wildly from the hip has its uses.

They live in a free state, Why don't they use a forward pistol grip? WE use the magwell hold.

I think he's talking from a more "simple physics" standpoint. Its more stable to have your hand out further past the magwell. I, for one, never warmed up to the magwell hold. Just never felt right.

People have argued to me that the magwell hold is faster in close and I can easily disprove it.
While it may be faster to get the gun off target and headed towards the next target, it's slower to stop the gun and get a stable sight picture.
If you are spraying IPSC targets at 3 yards, it will get you a cardboard hit, but if you require a-zone hits or head shots, it's slower, even as close as 3 yards.
As your hand moves forward on the handguard, you can accelerate and stop the barrel quicker AND it's more stable while shooting.

Get yourself into your magwell grip stance and have a friend tap the muzzle off target.
Watch how far the sight picture changes and how long you take to correct for it.
Repeat the excercise while you start moving your hand further and further out.
It will be plainly obvious in a short time. ;)

That is true, I was actually there over christmas, They wouldn't sell me a Mosin Nagant because of the bayonet and lug, said it's illegal here. I didn't know any better at the time though.

While I'm not a big fan of the magwell hold style, you mention having a friend tap the barrel to practice sight picture re-alignment. This is a great suggestion and I will go try this out as part of my practice routine. Thanks for the great insights!

Pick two spots on the wall (targets).
Light fixture, door knob, window, anything.
Start on one of them.
Aquire and dry fire.
No need to re-cock the hammer, just practice pulling the trigger over and over as if the gun were going off.
Now transistion to the other target as fast as you can aquire it and snap on it.
Go back and forth between the two targets, firing as fast as you think you have aquired it.

Now modify things like your hold and stance and keep doing these drills.
You will notice when the hold is better and when it's worse right away.

My reloading room used to be a kid's room before I bought the place.
I spackeled all the holes in the wall, but never painted it so it's a multi-color room complete with lion king wallpaper in places.
However, the white spackled spots are my targets.
I have hit them thousands of times while dry firing.
It's almost to where I have a routine on how fast I can hit one shot on each target, but I change up the path sometimes.

Honestly, looks like a big waste of ammo without having responsive targets.
