I have been thinking for some time about applying for a CCW. I wrote a rough draft of a good cause statement 6 months or more ago but never did anything with it. I think I have several good reasons and I think at least one of them will be may be considered good by the sheriff. A friend of mine and I do displays of historical weapons, primarily military, at different events. We have these in public places and transport often over 100 weapons at a time. I am also thinking about getting my C&R which would add to this reason.

Here is the dilemma and the main reason I have not applied for the CCW or the C&R. Some of you may remember that I graduated with my BA last year. After selling chemicals for about a year, I decided to go back to school for a graduate degree and a teaching credential (I have kind of wanted to teach for a while). To save money, I am living with my parents for a while, so I do not have my own address. In August, I will be moving to San Luis Obispo to go to Cal Poly. I only plan on being there for fall through spring and possibly early summer. I plan on leaving my permanent address as my parents’ house while I am there. After, I will probably live with my parents while I student teach being that you don’t get paid. After that, it depends on where I get a job. Though I probably will stay in the county.

So, if I applied for the CCW now in San Joaquin county where I live now, using my parents’ house as my address, would it be ok to leave the area for several months and stay at a different address without notifying the sheriff? How about for the C&R? I was thinking about waiting until I was settled and not going to be moving again for a while, but on the flip side, I would rather have it now. What are your thoughts guys? Should I do it now or wait? I was also thinking about posing this question on calccw.

...CCW....

SURE! So long as you didn't intend to carry.

Penal Code 12050 says you have to notify the Issuer within 10 days....your permit also automatically expires 90 days after you move out of the jurisdiction....

It seems to me that he isnt moving, hes just finishing schooling. if his permanent residence is in that county, doesnt that still make it legal? Im curious as well. It would almost be considered a extended business trip.

That is kind of what I was thinking/hoping would be the case? I also think it may be easier to get the CCW now than when I am a teacher. My current boss would write a letter for me, plus they may be more willing to give it to a crop consultant than a teacher. I could be wrong about that.

My other issue which is off topic from my original question, is what to do with all of my stuff. Due to the living lodging circumstances, I will not be able to take most of my stuff with me. I think I will only take two weapons. That leaves two safes worth of firearms at my parents’ along with crates of parts and accessories that include “high-caps”. Would that be considered loaning high-caps to leave them stored there?
