Awesome, will be picking up a case this evening. What's the quality like on the PRVI 55grn? Better/worse than Walmart Remington UMC?

Jicko

Worse.

Here is a HUGE LONG THREAD about these http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=271478

Some people report marginal performance, especially "short stroking" on less than top shape firearms.... where as the same firearm will not have issues with XM193, Q3131 or even AE223.

So if they are cheap, I guess... for plinking purpose... it should be fine.... but I, personally, wouldn't be trying precision works nor saving these up for SHTF..... XM193, or even AE223 can serve those purpose much better.

It is fully milspec new production 5.56x45. I have read only great things, it is leaps and bounds better then UMC. I ordered a case to do a real test, if anything this should be accurate and clean plinking ammo.

"I have read only great things", go read the ar15 thread I linked..... i think these are not bad... but, they certainly have short comings....

Yes, the 2004 and 2005 lots had some hiccups they got better in 2006 - and 2007 sounds even better.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=359691

It does sound like it's a little under under powered compared to the Q3131, but for the price, we can't do any better right now.

FlyingPen

It's certainly cheaper by about ~20%.

Remington UMC 223: $0.407 per round after taxes

PRVI 5.56: $0.33 per round.

This is good stuff people. I have used the 55grn and 62grn and my AR's have run flawlessly with them. The 55grn is loaded nice and hot too. Buy it while you can. Like how someone mentioned earlier it is NON-MAGNETIC.

I bought 200 rounds of this stuff last Fall. Fed great through my AR. I can also concur with the previous posters, my magnet test revealed no steel.

Compared with the Remingtons I bought at Walmart, I couldn't tell a difference other than I appreciated the simpler packaging. Great plinking ammo.

Thanks for putting this deal up. I never would've seen it otherwise. Free shipping, no tax made this a no-brainer for me.

How about any problems or lack thereof with these in a Mini 14?

patman

After the first or second shot, Wolf is more economical than anything else in a stock Mini-14 ;)

I'd think that anything that works well in an AR would be more than enough for the Mini!

I save the steel case for my mini but the privi works in it also.

I've been shooting the Prvi 55 gr and it works fine for me in a 14.5" CMMG and 20" Armalite upper. No problems at all. I ordered more in heavier bullets, waiting for it to show up now.

What does it being short stroked mean?

What does it being short stroked mean?

I think it means a jam caused when the bolt doesn't go all the way back, meaning the next round doesn't load properly.

it is not wise to use the military spec ammo in a civilian chamber. The military chamber is slightly longer and the ammo is slightly higher pressure.
This applies to both 5.56/223 and 7.62/308

:eek::confused:
Uh, it applies to the 5.56/.223.

The reverse is true for the 7.62/.308. Commercial standard is 62kpsi for the .308, NATO standard 50kpsi for the 7.62.

Sorry, I meant that it's not recommended to use milspec 7.62x51 ammo in a civilian .308 chamber.
