I know there won't be many interested in this but for those of you who understand, take a look at this.

Lots of new 6.5 stuff. 6.5 SAUM (4S), and the 6.5 Nosler. Hmmm

Do we really need another 6.5 powder burner?

FK yes its a long distance hunting round and not meant for target shooting so barrel life will be long.

Guess I won't be re-chambering my .260 barrel, unless I buy a long action. Sure will make for one heck of a P-dog round.

What's wrong with the Weatherby or a 6.5-06?

What's wrong with the Weatherby or a 6.5-06?

based on the PR, this one will run a 129 gr pill out the front end at 3400 fps.

I don't think the 6.5-06 will get there. The AI format might get close but Nosler is talking about a factory load, not a handload.

The 264 Win Mag will run the 125 grain bullet at 3,120 fps and it was known to be a barrel burner.

The idea here will be to run a 140 gr bullet at about 3300 and a 160 maybe 3000fps I guess, it's all about the High BC's and SD's that the long sleek 6.5 bullet offers though Nosler is pushing it's 129-130 grainer thats' not what will be the favorite for this cartridge. Anyone buying one or eventually cambering for one will most likely be using it for cross canyon shooting/hunting and or just flat out long range shooting/hunting. I will order one at the shot show if they are taking orders.

Wow

I am guessing the throat erosion will get bad before 1,000 rounds

The 26 Nosler® cartridge was designed to take advantage of the inherently accurate and high B.C. 6.5mm (.264) caliber bullets, and is capable of shooting the Nosler® 129 grain, AccuBond® Long Range™ bullet at a blazing 3400 fps out of the muzzle. Zeroed at 350 yards, the 26 Nosler® has a Point Blank Range of 0-415 yards. Loaded with the 129gr ABLR, the 26 Nosler® retains as much velocity at 400 yards as the 260 Remington® produces at the muzzle.

With the 284 Norma I didn't think there was a lot of built up demand for higher velocity 6.5 - but I guess more can't be a bad thing (especially if you're a barrel manufacturer).

It's likely a long action 6.5 ultramag so whoever is making AR uppers in 300 ultramag will likely be the first to offer an upper for it...

The 264 comes in close only with a custom 30" barrel but the others would never be in the ball park. Don't really matter those who know are those who appreciate a good hunting round. Guess that's the kind of criticism one get's for putting this type of info in a tactical based forum.

...Guess that's the kind of criticism one get's for putting this type of info in a tactical based forum.

Thanks for the post, it's great to find out about new cartridges. I'm old school and think a 30-06 does it all, I was just never a fan of big loudinboomer super magnums. Not many hunters are 6.5 fans so I don't see a super bright future for this new round but I've been wrong before.

I don't see the point of this cartridge. For starters, I don't know of anyone who uses a Nosler bullet. For target shooting the preferred manufacturer is Berger, followed by Lapua and Sierra. For hunting Bergers are hard to beat. So it looks like this cartridge is designed for a long action. Why even go there when there's the 6.5 X 284? Even a 6.5 SAUM 4S in a short action will out perform a 6.5 X 284, as well as this 26 Nosler. I bet this cartridge will be marketed towards hunters, only offer factory ammo, and only have a few models chambered in this cartridge.

Very interesting......

I'm a big 6.5 fan and bought 6.5x284's for the simple fact that it push those 6.5 spears fast as possible. It was the largest non-magnum cartridge I could find. I'm pushing 140gr VLD's at 3100fps and while I don't NEED anything faster, as a man I can't help but look at the neighbors lawn and want mine to be greener. :D

I'd like to know what the parent case is or dimensions. Anyone know?

these are spendy... but worth every penny.

Sierra's software cannot compute the awesomeness.
