I am now purchasing 1 modern handgun (it is currently in 10 day jail).

May I now purchase another handgun (through an FFL of course) if it C&R?

Or do I have to wait the usual 30 days?

Thank you.

You may purchase via a private party transfer as many as you like.

From dealer inventory you are limited to 1 per 30 days, unless you have both a C&R FFL and a COE.

C&R status of the gun is irrelevant.

If you project the 1-in-30 rule to become an issue for you in the future, there is a "shall-issue" exception... Obtain a 03FFL (C&R) and a Certificate of Eligibility from CA DOJ. The exception also applies to modern handguns.

As of 2012, C&R+CoE holders are exempt from the 10-day wait for C&R firearms sold by a dealer. PC 26970.

However, many FFL do not accept them for modern handguns and the DOJ website states that it only applies to C&R - no matter how the statute actually reads. There is a discussion around this on the FFL forum.

Understood. Like the 11-day waiting period, some of the stuff becomes ordinary CYA practice, which I completely understand for a business under the microscope.
