The same folks who sponsored the successful "Come And Take It Temple" open carry rally are sponsoring another march at the Alamo in response to actions by the local tyranny enforcement thugs. This event is supported by Oath Keepers.

http://www.dontcomply.com/come-and-take-it-san-antonio-line-in-the-sand/

The organizer is expecting over 1,000 participants.

The stated goals are to:
1) Educate Americans on their right to openly carry shotguns and rifles in a safe manner.
2) To condition Americans to feel safe around those of us that carry them.
3) Encourage our elected officials to pass less restrictive open carry legislation.

Since this is such an incredibly popular topic I'll post an update...

A source has reported that San Antonio Police Department officials are conspiring to violate the civil rights of attendees under color of authority (a federal crime punishable by up to ten years in prison).

And good luck if you think AG Holder and his corrupt Dept. of J*ckoffs will bother to prosecute any of those cases. DOJ does not believe in "rule of law" anymore.....their sole function now is "political persecution".

Thanks for posting about this very important event. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else on Calguns.

Very interesting what the ex-SAPD officer had to say. Hope the event is successful today.

Be sure and don't miss the great speech given by Alex Jones there today!

Armed pro gun rally. Where is the carniage, pain, death, destruction? How are these people keeping their guns from pointing, and firing at passing victims? They must have removed the firing pins, smart...:p

for those old enough to remember "Hands Across America" in the 80s...

We need "Gun's Across America"!!!!!

If you are unfamiliar - look it up... IMHO, this is about the only way to show the antis that a vast majority of this entire country has a different view than what government wants them to see.

That, and that 99.9% of firearm owners are NOT a danger to anyone, and we simply like to own, collect, hunt, and shoot at targets.

I wish NRA would spend its resources setting something like that up...

Perception is everything... and if there was a country-wide concerted effort (at the same exact time), that's very powerful.

BTW; this suggestion is 100% "message and unity" - not in any way a suggestion of revolt... hence, my comment to look up Hands Across America if you don't know the concept ("you" in general, not you chevy)...

+1, and i'll steal your comment and claim it as my own for CYA;
"this suggestion is 100% "message and unity" - not in any way a suggestion of revolt..." [or to suggest the overthrowing of any government body].

I could not even image the impact it would have on our nation if the majority of firearm owners opened carried their firearms (in accordance with law), all on the SAME DAY across the entire nation. Perhaps the Anti's would realize just how many American's are in fact firearm owners.

how do we make this happen?... maybe I'm delusional - but I think it would send a strong and undeniable message...

liberal media couldn't spin it as "extremists" when millions of Americans were united in the sentiment... and if organized properly, tens of millions.

Wishful thinking maybe?...

I love what the Police Chief Said: "There are too many issues associated with trying to enforce every ordinance here today,"

I just wish we did this in Sacramento. No one has any Gonads in this state...

I love obama, and I love liberals, as a gun store owner in the last 4 years my business was up 700%, it tripled from that in the last 10 months with all the anti-gun rallys and speeches (they are great for business), just to show my appreciation to the liberals, I will donate all the candles for your next vigil and throw in a couple grand cash if you hold the vigil in front of my store, (vigils are great for business too)

Heh :)

I am afraid so. By the time people will be willing to do this their guns would have been confiscated years prior, they would have already been forced into concentration camps, and even then I doubt it....

Who knows... I am cynical, but maybe if the NRA got involved and the topic was of national interest not state.

"Hundreds of gun-rights advocates, many toting rifles and shotguns, gathered early Saturday at the Alamo in San Antonio to rally in support of gun ownership and the right to bear arms.

The rally, called "Come and Take It San Antonio," comes in response to what organizers called San Antonio police's "disregard for Texas law and The Constitution." Organizers said the police department has harassed gun owners and created a hostile environment for legal gun ownership."

Won't happen here. California is just not Texas.

Support the cause, glad to see a group being peaceful and exercising their rights. I abhor where they chose to hold it. For those of us that want to uphold the tradition of the 2A, doing this on a grave site is reprehensible. I am not happy with ANY protest at the Alamo, and even more not happy when it's a cause I support and makes people like me look disrespectful, because I am not.

The equivalent of Alamo would be in Sonoma/Marin counties -- where Bear Flag Revolt began, Sutter's Fort, etc... -- ironically some of the least RKBA friendly places (which has played into our hands: afaik, this is where BB/U-15 arrests happened which lead to broad recognition of these as acceptable)

The reason it's less famous than Alamo is that Mexican-American war was already under way (California, however, didn't yet receive the message -- telegraph didn't reach California) and most battles were victories (not to mention US Civil War overshadowed these events anyway).

My opinion was in 1968 when members of the Black Panthers showed up in the State Capitol with firearms to protest what the city of Oakland was doing to it's black citizens. The Mulford Act was then passed in response.
Neither a pretty nor proud day in state history.

I grew up in Texas and though it is a grave sight, the Alamo is remembered not for the people who died there, but how they chose to live in defiance of Santa Anna. As William Travis wrote in his final letter, 'Liberty or Death."

The only more fitting place to hold such a gathering in Texas would be in Gonzalez where the Texans actually flew the come and take it flag.

I'm not usually a touchy-feely kind of guy and I did not send a "thank you" letter to Governor Brown, but I may send a sympathy card to the one(s) who caused this problem in the first place; something along these lines:

IN DEEPEST SYMPATHY

At this time of great disgrace in your life, you must take solace in knowing you are not alone. Although you have been shown to be a small, petty man devoid of the characteristics that ennoble mankind, a tyrant, and a betrayer of your oath of office and indeed of your fellow man, there are many like you. Not only in your home state of Texas, but across Amerika. The embarrassment you feel knowing that the honorable men among your ranks view you with disgust as you bring dishonor to their profession will heal in time as arrogance and hatred fill your heart and mind.
