I think it'd be fairly easy to make this CA compliant ala G3 or remove PG.

It's on the 1989 AWB list.

That is a 338 or other AI magnum, not the AW50 and therefore legal.

You are thinking of this.

but wasnt there a letter from IGGY himself saying that this company in kalif modified a colt by welding the magwell shut, it essentially said, it was no longer an A/W?

The way I see it, I am glad that I am stationed in CA for now (With ammo prices so high nowadays). Once I get transfered to FL, I will ensure that I post my first MG purchase:43: If MG's were legal in CA, I would be in serious financial trouble.

That would be Evan's Gunsmithing, and while Iggy did write that memo, it was an underground memo and didn't follow the law. (Those rifles are AW's.)

What you can do though is buy a sig 556 and put a 550 lower on it.
The upper half is the serial numbered receiver on a sig. The 550 lower would need a mod to the selector to mag it single fire.
Read on the sig forum where people were doing this
making it otherwise CA compliant is another story, need a mag lock and probably to pin the stock open.

I've got one of those (before the .50BMG ban that is).

Also the AI .338 Lapua is legal.

Here is the ROBERTI-ROOS ban listand as this item is listed in GB its not on the list.
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/dwcl/12275.php

In line 12 the prohibited items are listed.
(12) SIG AMT, PE-57, SG 550, and SG 551.

Yet at the GB auction the Rifle is listed like so. "Sig 550-2 SP Swiss Rifle"
http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=90465315

If I wanted a Sig rifle I would look for a SIG 510-4 that was exempted by the BATF&E somewhat to the HK G3 or the FN FAL G Series Rifles.

But I suppose that is like looking for the Holy Grail. LOL

I wont say WHO but I have been told that a board member here owns one of the 5 Paratrooper G Series FN FAL'S. Would anyone care to take a guess what that Rifle is worth ?

It sucks that you can't own a lot of things in this state.

Sig 556: $1300
Sig 551 lower: $2,000
Sig 551 handguards: $75
Rear Sights (either 551 sight assembly welded to receiver, or Aurora Industries rail-mounted clone) $200-400
Front Sight (Aurora Industries) $110
Set screw for magazine lock: $.50
Sig front sight tritium insert from Switzerland: $75

That's a bit more legwork, but legal and still less than the 551 on GB.

I was at the Costa Mesa gun show today and saw a SIG 556 with a Bullet Button and 10/30 mag for approx $1,500 (offered by Cold War Shooters). It may not be exactly the same as the one on GunBroker, but it's still a SIG EBR.

Where would one get a SIG 550/51/ lower from?

Wouldn't matter if you could. SIG 550 and 551 are banned by make/model in CA. A Bullet Button or featureless build wouldn't make them any less banned.
