(GunNews.com) The Justice Department finds itself on the defensive after a training manual surfaced that suggests federal agents could face a firing squad for leaking government secrets.

A photo in the online manual for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives complete with a photo of a turn-of-the-century firing squad was obtained by The Washington Times from a concerned federal law enforcement official, and it immediately drew protests from watchdogs who said it showed a lack of sensitivity to gun violence and the continuing hostile environment toward whistleblowers.

Stephen Kohn, executive director of the National Whistleblower Center, said the DOJ has forgotten about the protections of the First Amendment, which covers leaks to the media, and that the photo could scare its employees into self-censorship.

If you follow the story to the Washington Times page, they don't even show a full photo of the training manual page(s) they're talking about. They just talk about it.

Whether it's true or not doesn't really matter. This is the first administration of my life ( the 1st in US history? ) that could threaten agents in such a manner and not suffer any negative consequences.

The war on whistle blowers is the first salvo in the super secret government conspiracy to deny Americans of their 1st amendament rights.
Those bastards have already taken over all the mainstream news agencies and now socialists like Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer are advocating that Americans should no longer have free speech unless it is fed to them by the socialistic party approved mouth piece.
Wake up Americans isn't it time we take a stand and run these bastards out of our country!
Grap your pitch forks and torches fire up the hot tar and rip open some feather pillows we need to have an old fashioned rail riding party.
Oh uh let me loosen this tin foil up a bit it is starting to make my head spin.

No, not really. All through the cold war "leaking information" didn't mean media whistle blowing.. it meant giving it to the Ruskies.. Treason is a capital crime that carries a death sentence.

It could be argued that this has always been in place and yes, leaking national secrets can lead you to death row and a firing squad. That is what happens when you get a Federalist Government, government is the nation, not the people.

if you guys read the Washington post article it clearly said it was an online national security course.

Also the only federal agents that the DOJ "warn" was the ATF since it was on their online course and the ATF is very tiny.

In other words people like to dramatize everything. This is the "conservative" version of drama whereas the liberal dramatize gun violence.

Can Americans put Obama before a firing squad for leaking details of the SEAL Team that got Osama?

LOL, that IS an official United States Justice Department "On Line Security Course", isn't it ? lol

Somehow you're less bothered that the ONLY federal agents being reminded and intimidated with firing squads were those in the ATF.

Oh brother, talk about a poster trying too hard ..lol

Fear, it's what keeps the pigs in power.

By pigs I mean our leaders; a la Animal Farm. You have to keep your dogs in line to ensure control of the sheep.
