Wondering what y'all think about a BRNO 30-06 Model 98. Info on this rifle would be wonderful as well. I have read that it is a Mauser rifle? Just that Mauser handed over production to the Chez when they did the Model 98?

This will be used for hunting. Deer, Pigs, whatever..I have been hunting one time before in TN, and I really want to get into it now. Also thinkin about optics too..maybe a Nikon of some sort

I have had the same thing happen to me a couple of times in the shotgun forum, don't take it to heart.

Buy a used rem/savage/mauser at local gun shops.

Some come with optics.

is it a rebarreled mauser? new production?

honestly, and I'm sure there are plenty of folks who'll correct me :) :) but bolt action rifles are a century old technology and as such are not that hard to make and make well. they are almost perfected, maybe that's a better term. and they are wonderful. I mean, there are few 100 year old technologies, or for that matter, 20 year old technologies, that stand up to time. well bolt rifles and 1911's do quite nicely.

point is, modern manufacturing techniques coupled with bolt rifle technology allow for very well made and very inexpensive quality rifles. pretty much every lower end (ruger american, savage axis, marlin X7, et al.) will shoot very accurately OOB. no true 30-40 years ago, but today for sure.

if you get a good deal on it, buy it. will it shoot 3" groups at 700yds? no. will it kill deer and pigs for decades? absolutely.

If you are choosing amongst only those 3 scopes go with the buckmaster.

The BRNO is well known in the Safari world. It is a strong and dependable rifle. I would love to find a nice 375 H&H BRNO for a decent price. I seem to always miss the deals on Gunbroker.

BRNO is CZ as far as I know. They make really solid hardware.

Been seeing your name pop up all over w the topics ive been researching. Id like to pick your brain on rifles and scopes if you dont mind. I like the Nikons but like i stated i am super newb to hunting and hardware (rifle scopes etc) why buckmaster? and other comparable substitues that re around same price range..maybe 2-400 OTD?? I have the brno 30-06 but want a better scope. Figure ill use it for everything i hunt right now. deer and pig are the most common that i will be hunting. my buddy has land so whatever we can find on that. Been hear 30-06 might be over kill for deers bug awesome for pigs. IDK where else to look for stuff smaller then pigs like deer and other animals of that nature. buddy out in TN uses a 243 for deer and medium game and the 30-06 for everything bigger. another uses 270 for everything and another uses a 308. I can ramble on and on but yeah...help? lol

Excellent proven design, massive Mauser claw extractor. Get EAA bases and rings so you don't have fit issues, you may have a clearance issue w/ your scope eyepiece and the wing safety. I have the m98 full stock .308 with iron sights and different safety. I love this rifle. Try to get a wood stock, you will find it better balanced.
You can't go wrong with any of your scope choices, I like Nikon and Redfield.

Buy a lower power scope than you think you need.
Rather than looking at 3-9's, look at 2-7's and 1.5-5's.
The lower magnification gives a better field-of-view so when you walk up on a critter and spook it, you can shoulder the rifle quickly and get a shot off.
3x is a LOT of magnification at 20yds...
1.5x is MUCH better.

You walk around with the magnification turned all the way down.
If you actually NEED more magnification, there will be ample time to turn the magnification up while you are settling down into a really stable position for a long shot.
