Starbucks - NO backbone

No where does it say that they are banning guns in their stores. They have only said that they would rather you not bring them there. In fact the article is pretty clear that if you do open carry in their stores, they aren't even going to ask you to leave. They just don't want open carry demonstrations in their stores.

Also OP a "Gun Free Zone" is something that is enacted by a legal process and makes carrying a firearms on the property illegal, not discouraged. There is nothing in this article that suggests that Starbucks is now a "Gun Free Zone."

Starbucks - NO backbone

Why? Because he basically wanted to stay out of it and some open carry types forced him to make a decision?
If we want to win this fight its gonna tale a lot more than just screaming "IT'S OUR RIGHT!" It's going to take logic, common sense (real common sense not the anti bs catch line version) and analytical thinking ability. Showing up en masse open carrying was a stupid logic deficient move and basically disrespected his wishes of not having his business drug into the middle of a politicized debate.

Good point. People need to start being FACTUAL and not just running with half truths. That makes us no better than the anti crowd.

Horse dump! Get your facts straight before attacking a company that remains gun friendly. Starbucks is not a gun free zone, they've just asked open carry fanatics to respect their neutrality and stop frightening their customers. They are no posting "no guns" signs, they are just asking us to respect their business and their more timid customers by not open carrying in their stores.

And people blame the media for inaccurate reporting. What is the 10th or 11th post today about saying Starbucks is against guns. Seriously, people need to get banned for posting totally false posts.

I think you are missing the point... Starbucks are still one of the biggest gun neutral / gun supporting companies....

The Douche Bags who open carry, film the police response, get arrogant with the cops all while the STARBUCKS logo is the background is the problem....

You will find HUNDREDS of open carry stops on your tube of the Open Carry Police interaction videos.... Filmed with Starbucks as the backdrop

Open carry folks in CA could have all become instructors and taught Boy Scouts, new shooters and Women how to shoot a firearm... but they chose to walk up and down the beach and such....

the result was turning the public against guns.... not building confidence and comfort around firearms....

Can we stop with all of the Starbucks Threads???????????

Please change the title of this thread. I clicked on it thinking that something new had developed. You're rehashing old news and the title is not accurate.

Regardless, this does NOT belong in the Litigation forum: this "news" has nothing to do w/a 2nd A civil or criminal case.

LOL.. yup...LEGALLY CCW in starbucks all you want!!!

According to the CEO he doesn't want any firearms in the stores, that would include CCW.

He said Starbucks is "respectfully requesting that customers no longer bring firearms into our stores [and] our outdoor seating areas -- even in states where 'open carry' is permitted, unless they are authorized law enforcement personnel."

To me this means what it says, "On Thursday, the Seattle-based company will run full-page ads in major newspapers, telling customers that guns are no longer welcome in its cafes". That is a gun free zone to me.

You can all bash me or other supporters of our Second Amendment rights for informing a company that I will no longer support them if my rights and thus me are not welcome in their stores.

Or you could stand up for your rights and inform them yourself.

But you are right I did post this in the wrong 2nd thread, I apologize and feel free to move it.

I found this article on yahoo. It appears Starbucks was targeted by anti 2A groups to counter the pro 2A open carry folks:

Thanks for the other link fr33domfightr.

"According to Starbucks' new policy, which goes into effect today, "Everyone is welcome in our stores, but weapons are not."

"However, in his open letter to Americans (http://www.starbucks.com/blog/an-open-letter-from-howard-schultz/1268), Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz makes it clear that only law officers should have guns inside stores going forward"

Still sounds like a gun free zone due to anti 2nd'ers to me.

Still sounds like a gun free zone due to anti 2nd'ers to me.

An actual "Gun Free Zone" is a very specific thing. If you bring a gun unto the premise of a Gun Free Zone you can be charged with a crime related speficially to that action (ie. taking a gun onto school/university campus, state or federal building or county courthouse). This is not the case with the press release from Starbucks, therefore it is not a "Gun Free Zone". It's simply another business that has decided to regulate the carry of firearms on their property, just like Home Depot, Lowes, and countless other establishments have.

I'd like to point out yet again, that the release of this policy is completely moot in the case of CA as the state has already passed a ban on Open Carry. Additionally, if you are Carrying Concealed, no one should ever know that you have a gun on the property regardless.

To play along, however: if you were in another state and you were to open carry into a Starbucks, the worst case scenario is that they ask you to romove the firearm from the property or leave (Which the CEO has already stated is not going to happen). Then if you refuse to leave the property, they can call LE and have you cited for trespassing, an infraction that has nothing to do with the fact that you are carrying a firearm. That being said it is not a "Gun Freee Zone".

I don't agree that companies should be limiting people's right to carry, however, we live in a society that has opted to place greater import on the private property rights of the retailer than the RKBA of the individual. The fact that Starbucks has gone this long without making such an official policy when a great many other retailers have been regulating carry for years, is itself amazing to me.

I dont know why people go there anyway! People love over priced beverages? COME ON PEOPLE wake up! STARBUCKs! Make a pot of coffee at home for a fraction of the cost if you must have it. UNBELIEVABLE... The whole starbucks thing is mind boggling without thier anti-constitutional attitude. They are not the only ones I wont spend $$$ with . . . Walmart - No one saves money at that place. I see the adds and compare to what I pay. Not cheaper. Just full of trashy people of all races and retards working the cash registers. Panera, Chipotle, Outback, Claim Jumper, Applebees, Chilis all terrible food and high prices. Wake up, make a coffee, stay home, bbq listen to your friends and family, save some money and enjoy.

If you do use Starbuck for coffee, can you post why you chose to? I am absolutely unclear on why i see the lines at this place.
