I changed my address online through the DMV because i moved to Bakersfield because of college. When purchasing a firearm, do I need to have my present address on my driver's license? I ask this because my license doesnt expire until December of 2008.

You need to get a change of address card (brown) that will be stanmped at the DMV. Make sure that it gets stamped to authenticate it. It's merely an additional card that you carry with your new address on it. Just present it when purchasing a firearm and you'll be fine.

A valid DL and proof of residence should suffice. Having the wrong address on your DL shouldn't stop a Handgun transaction.

Have your parents draft up a lease with you.

I had the same concern when I purchased my three stag lowers in November.
I wrote my new address on the back of my license and also brought the online DMV printout. All they did was photocopy both sides of the license. They didnt care about the printout
Forgot to mention i also brought a current utility bill just in case.

I'll try printng the DMV printout. Dont you need a sticker though when you write your new address on the back of the license? And the utility bill has to have my name on it right?

I just put a piece of scotch tape on the back of my license and wrote the new address, never had a problem. Second form of ID needs to have your name and correct address.

I have seen the clerks at Turners refuse to sell to people when their DL address did not match their physical address. Some stores have more restrictive policies than state law. Just avoid those stores.

I accept the brown DMV change of address cards. I accept hard wire utility bills. I accept rental or lease agreements with or without notary (some documents say notary, others don't). I also let guys write their address in marker on the other side of their ID.
However, I don't know what other guys accept so make sure you buy your guns from me! :D

Have your parents transfer the cable bill to your name, but just have them continue paying it. Thats the easiest way. If you go the lease route, I think it has to be notarized. Plus, it will be less hassle just to take in a real, official utility bill.

i think i will try what Wes said about writing my address on the back of my DL. I went on the DMV website and read some more info about this and said its okay for identification to have my new address written on a piece of paper.
do i have to wait in line at the DMV for the "little brown card" or can i make an appointment instead?
