Not trolling, so don't post if you don't have something constructive to add.
:D
Basically, I am just curious if anyone here has ever had any interface (good or bad) with the BATFE. I've called the local office a couple of times with 922(r) questions, and found that they were helpful and knowledgeable.
This is unlike the DOJ, which appears not to do much more than spread FUD.
Anyone else have any experiences that they would care to share???

When Elk Grove PD wanted to inspect all FFL(even C&R) holders in town the BATFE were quite helpful in telling me that they couldn't do that. After they called EGPD and confirmed that this wasn't some sort of scam(by then they had gotten a bunch of other calls from other FFL holders), they advised me that they weren't sure of the legality of these inspections and if I felt my rights were being violated to consult an attorney. Someone higher up in the BATFE must have had a talk with EGPD as they cancelled my scheduled inspection and have not called back since. So the little interaction I have had with them has been positive.

As a cop, I had an occasion back in '88 to work with them on a case involving FA weapons, and a suspected drug and alien smuggler. They have alot of cool toys and feed you real well on the the fed credit card. The guys I worked with were out of the San Diego office. Never dealt with them as a citizen though.

I had to call about my FFL03 license being late and they were very helpful. They followed up and made sure I got the license. Good experience.

I had a friend who was an ATF arson investigator. He really seemed to know his stuff. Was not at all interested in guns.

For safety's sake and personal preference, I like them in a differnt order:
BFAT - go shooting, then on to the drinking and smoking.
there is also BFAST which is an option 3 weekends a month...

I can't judge the whole agency by the actions of 1 agent, but the one I had to deal with thought a never fired still in the shipping case semi-auto Allied Armament 1919 made in 2007 was a WWII era stolen machine gun... Then proceeded to advise local LE that I was probably dealing in them (I must have discovered a secret cache of them somewhere)... This is the reason my bail was so high and I could not make bail for several weeks. Still, I made out better than the Weavers...

My personal experiences with them regarding my C&R FFL have been painless. While I don't trust or admire them based on many things I've heard about them, I don't have any personal experience to support my negative opinion.

I had occasion to call them once. I DROS'ed a lower wayyy back when (probably 1988?) and then completely forgot about it. Eight months later I suddenly realized that I was a complete idiot and I called the ATF and asked them if they could help me find the dealer who had done the DROS on the lower since I had lost the receipt and could not remember the guys name or business name. Well they pretty much just laughed at me :) I eventually did find the dealer, and he told me that he was just about to resell my lower since I had basically abandoned it. I try and pay closer attention to pick up dates these days............;)

My dealings has been very minimal, but from what I have gathered from other people, in and out of the state, the ATF is more like the teacher on the playground making sure everyone in playing fair, unlike the bully trying to intimidate and force the other kids to see things their skewed way like some other agencies.
It sure does sound like a gun place to shop though!

The few smiths that I know have had (overall) very positive experiences with the responsiveness of their local branches. One had a bad experience with one particular agent who seemed to have problems with the world. The agent was positioning himself to put my smith friend very bad position when he just disappeared. Figured he got transfered out or something.
As for the ninjafied branch of the ATF... Well, not a lot of people who have experiences with them get to talk about them afterwards.

i personally think they have exceeded their boundarys they are a branch of the treasury they should only be concerned with revenue collecting not regulations or opinions on what is not useful for sporting purposes
but since we are in this pickle we have to comply with their rules
i hope the heller dc case comes down as it should cause i've been wanting an .88 magnum for quite a while

I shoot competitions with the SAC of one of their field offices. Really nice guy, and he doesn't seem to have the slightest interest in hassling the honest gun owner.
