I had a strange idea. Is it possible to have a 700 SA fit a Saturn 6.5grendel Barrel? I was thinking a Remington 700 SA trued, bolt trued with a tactical bolt mod, competition holland recoil lug, saturn 6.5barrel, muzzle brake, on a aics 1.5 or 2.0 stock.

Imagine a tried and true action fitted with a high quality match grade grendel barrel with a muzzle brake. No recoil, flat projectile shooting capable of going 1200yards with pinpoint accuracy. I think it would be superior in performance than a .260

I don't see why it can't be done, though I doubt it will be hugely superior to a .260 unless you want to really burn up your barrels. Truthfully if I were going 6.5, there are a number of others rounds I'd take before a Grendel. 6.5-284, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5 Creedmore. I'd probably take a .260 before a Grendel.

The creedmore looks interesting. Someone posted about it in my 300 Win Mag thread.

6.5-284 eats barrels up pretty quick also, 6.5x47 great in the 300m World Championship, dont really know how it does at longer ranges. 260 looks like the best choice.

I think I prefer the velocity of the 260 over the grendel.

There's really not too much reason to use a 6.5 Grendel in a bolt action platform.. there's simply better choices. The Grendel's advantage is that it can provide bolt action performance similar to that of a .308 in a semi-auto/ AR platform.

With that said, my Satern barrel should be done soon.. or so they tell me. Ordered it in July '07! Given the clients they've been making 6.5 Grendel barrels for.. I don't mind the wait and am glad I can even get one from them.

Looks like it has been done before: http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek027.html

Seems that there are some advantages to having the 6.5 Grendel in a bolt action format depending on what you're comparing it to and what pupose it is to serve.

Make it happen, Peter!

If you do go the Satern route, just know that their email system is screwy. Give them a call and leave a message.. they don't pick up but they do get back to you fairly quickly.

They'll help you decide on twist, contour, etc based on application and projectile you plan on using.

i'm not going to order the stuff yet. i still need to finish buid#2 and buy tons of equipment. this is a project for way down the road. just collecting ideas right now.

i have a new plan if somethings line up for me this year to buy a haas cnc mill sometime next year. crossing my fingers.

What about the 6.5 creedmore?

Don't think they'll fit in a AR-15 platform. The rounds are approximately 2.8" if memory serves correctly.

Or did you mean for a bolt action?

They sure did. Some guy decided to "clear" his shotgun into the ground during a line break. People got hit by ricochet. The way I see it, somebody can shoot you at any time no matter where you are.
