Anybody out there looking to sell a short barrel swede?
CG 96/38 or Husq 38 both OK.

DennisCA: No C&R unfortunately. I want to try and avoid shipping, tax, FFL if I can. Also prefer to see the rifle personally before purchasing. If I get desperate, I may have to resort to Samco. Their price looks good.

C&Rtrader: My price range is under 400 if possible. Isn't that a reasonable expectation for a good m38?

Keep in eye on Gunbroker for current price range. IMO, it'll be tough to find a decent M38 for under $400. I've been tracking GB for the past 6 months and nice ones are $400+ but every once in a while you'll find one that slips through for $300-350. Good luck!

Honestly, you really should get a C&R license if you can because transfer fees + tax will make it hard to find a good deal on the Internet unless you can find a local buyer to FTF.

Dennis is right, get your license, you will not pay tax or dros or transfer, only shipping, which is much less than all those put together, the 30 you spend on the license will save you 50 on your first purchase

I hear ya. I realize having a C&R license is a big savings when ordering on line. I'm just not sure about purchasing a C&R rifle I'm not able to inspect first, let alone put a headspace gauge through. I was hoping to get lucky with a local FTF, but I may have to bite the bullet and get a license after all. The couple of m38's in stores locally are ridiculous. There's a rusty one with pitting I saw at a LGS with them wanting 500.

Yup, and a C&R FFL is $30 for 3 years. How much is one transfer at a FFL?

Looks like Samco is down to M38 barreled actions...no complete rifles left.
