Not sure on the 94 but I would think its the same as the 92. You can use a lighter gate spring or maybe cut into it to make it a little more forgiving. Is it the gate or pushing the rounds up the mag tube that's harder?

Otteray, nice collection, Sir....That little 1892 is sweet.

Vin63, how is that new 73 treating you? Those are so nice...

Golfish, thanks, it is fun to reload the cartridges with a heel based cast bullet and up to a couple grains of Bullseye. The lightest loads are whisper quiet. Accuracy falls apart past 25 yards, lol.

I'm not a reloader (yet) but I can sure understand why you would have to, and want to reload for those rifles. I'm a big fan of the rifle over the carbine.

Do you shoot all of them?

I bet that 22LR is accurate ?

With close to a ton of scrap lead to cast with for free, you bet I reload them all, except the .22s, of course.
These old .22s are accurate and have the heft and feel of the larger calibers.

Both are early 80s ranger 94's chambered in 30-30.
Top one has only a box of 20 rounds through it by me.
Bottom I recently transformed into my deer rifle. Leupold m8-20 ier scout scope from 60s. And Leopold Detacho scout base and rings. With Wilson magazine tube sling clamp.
Both leather covers I made, bottom one is a cheek riser version for the scope.

Took it to ASR today for some metal plate plinking. It's chambered in .357/.38 special, 16" barrel, with large loop lever. I added a bit of leather lacing to the lever. Doesn't really add that much padding, but since it took a bit of effort to put on, I'm too lazy to remove it, haha!

It's a very fun gun! I let a friend fire it a few months ago and he put one in jail later that day! We took his carbine to the range and he was hitting the plates right out of the box.

For you guys with the side loaders, how do you deal with mashing your thumb to load the round? I just recently got an m94 and it sucks loading a round in it.

I use my index finger - first to compress the gate spring with the cartridge, and then push it passed the gate into the tube from the rear of the cartridge.

...Vin63, how is that new 73 treating you? Those are so nice...

It's like butter. :D It will be a great rifle in .44 mag and larger revolver calibers when they make it available. I hopefully plan to use it in a couple of precision rifle (revolver caliber) events in CAS soon.

I like to hold the rifle by the receiver in my left hand, with my thumb near the loading gate. Grab a cartridge with my right hand and push it half-way in, but not all the way. Then use my left thumb to hold the cartridge in while I grab another with my right hand. Use the second bullet to push the first one in, and stop halfway. Repeat till full, the last cartridge is the only one that you have to push in all the way to where the gate can pinch you.

My rifle holds 9, I normally use the tip of a 10th round to push the 9th in instead of my finger. no more pinching.

I just push the round in most of the way and follow it with the next. On the last round, I hold the gate with my thumb's first knuckle as it gets to that point. Once the last round seats in I pull my thumb back and let the gate close. Even so, every once in a while she bites me.

Top is 22 Marlin 39a w 24" octagon barrel added williams target peep rear sight and globe front sight - a great shooter and worth 600% what I paid for it in 1975. Tube holds 18 LR or 24 shorts.

Bottom is 357/38 Marlin 1894 with williams rear peep sight. Hand load 125g jacketed bullet with H110 powder and get 2000 fps that will punch through 3/16" steel at 100 yards.

I'm busted. The 44 Mag shoots great, but I get a little barrel whip out of the hot charge. The gun is a little wild with Mag ammo. Need to load some cooler loads.

The 44 Special is perfect shooting, I was grouping a 2-inch circle at 50 yards with iron sights. :p

The bad news, the shorter 44Sp double feeds a lot. :(

Pretty close; it's in the same family, a 96/44. Since I already reload .44 Spl/Mag, it made sense as a good brush-huntin' gun.

BTW, Sosoomi's Rossi/M629 combo in .44M above looks really nice.

Marlin .357 with scope. Bought in the 1980s. Really fun and accurate.
My kids loved shooting this.

An almost new browning BL 22. Fun .22

I just love the look the shorter levers with big fat 45-70 barrels.

I am afraid I will have to agree with that.... I am thinking a 45-70 has got to be next!

Ok, i'll play. Here's my new 2013 model year 336 in .30-30. It's wearing an XS sights lever rail that allows for a forward mounted optic.(yet to be purchased)

I did a bit of normal slicking up, but otherwise its been 100% reliable. Remington's finally got their new CNC process down, it would seem.

Looks like December 1900. My grandparent were from that era. I asked my grandpa why he never smiled in the old pictures. He said that smiling for photographs makes a man look silly. So I think it was a cultural thing.

Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore was just having a promotion (I think it ends today, and their site seems down at the momentExtended until 9/14) where you could..."Create Your Own Henry Rifle Heirloom". Had a large selection of Henry models where you could choose your own SN, and they said that the rifles would ship in early December.

So many very beautiful rifles out there. Makes me drool like a real life Homer Simpson. I have a Henry 22lr, and a pre-64 Winchester Model 94 in 30-30, but I just bought one from a gun dealer in Pennsylvania. That one is a Winchester Model 1886 in 45-70. It is BNIB and made in Japan of course. But I am really looking forward to adding it to my collection. As soon as I get it in my hands I will update this post with the proper pictures.

Glue stick (for a glue gun) or short 5-6" dowel. It's kind of like a speed-loader for m94's. A lot of guys use them at the Cowboy Silhouette matches, where you need to load 5 rounds and be ready in 30 seconds.

I am told by the owner I bought it from that it is original blued finish but a little water damage to the stock...I think it gives the gun a little character... anyway its my first Mod. 94. It took me a long time to get around to get one.

The website isn't much help either, and is confusing my FFLs.

Both 357 Mag lever guns (Rifle and Carbine) show the same barrel length of 20", OAL of 38", and the same weight.

Would love to get the 16" version of this take down.

Can you confirm your barrel length and reference #? I suspect the 16" is 920-133

Mine is a 16 inch barrel chambered in .357 magnum. It can also fire .38 special rounds.

Check out Taylor's & CO.'s website for more specs: http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/taylor-s-tactical-1/taylor-s-tactical-rifles.html

For dealer locations: http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/taylors-dealers.html/

If you are near the Burbank/Glendale area check out American Gun works: http://americangunworks.net

That's where I got mine. Be prepared for to wait if you are looking for .357 or .44. I think they might have .45 Long Colt in stock?

Hope this helps! Post a pic if you happen to get one!

Love my leverguns! They're all such great shooters... but since I've acquired the pistol calibers, I've neglected my .30-30. I'm going to spend some more time with that one even though I can't get enough of the .44.

Quality problems, EH? lol.

Two 1969 mfg. Winchester model 94 SRC's in .44 magnum. The top rifle: NIB with complete set (warranty reg card, warranty cert., manual and hang tag) destined to be a "safe queen". Bottom rifle; mint condition no box or papers destined to be my saddle gun to accompany my S&W 629 Mountain Gun on my horseback trips into the Sierra's / Sequoia national forest.

And yet another Model 94 SRC in 30 WCF mfg in 1924. Rifle has a shotgun recoil pad on it and a home wood refinish but it was a local gun that came up for sale cheap and "who am I to turn down a cheap vintage model 94???"

My 1894 chambered in .32 Spl. (Mfr. date 1927). I've had this rifle since about 1961, a hand-me-down from my father. Not in collector condition but priceless, none the less! http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx338/rivraton/1894%20Winchester.jpg

Looks like a good place to ask, have a '61 Marlin 336 30-30 with a straight stock, what's a fair price to ask for it?

My Winchester 94 30-30 "antique" model I bought at a recent gun show, it's one of my most favorite rifles to shoot! (The 1911 is my brother's that he bought at the same gun show)

Chrometip, that asking price is pretty fair, and maybe a little low. The sight is $100 or so on its own.
That would probably sell quickly on Marlin Owners, but you need 25 posts to be able to sell.
If I was looking for another zero, I'd snap that one up.

Marlin 1893 chambered in 38-55 WCF

Have you cast the bore to check the bore diameter? Mine is close to .380"; so I've had to ream some of the cartridge mouths, so that the oversized cast bullets fit the tight chamber when seated in the brass. Great accuracy with lighter "Cowboy" loads of the discontinued SR4759 smokeless powder. I still have 5 lbs of that. :)

I currently have 5 chambered in 38-55, but only one I really shoot much. That one is this 1893 and I have slugged the bore to find it is .379 and in really good shape. I haven't had too many problems getting rounds to chamber, as I have a good supply of both Starline and Winchester brass and I have found some rifles prefer one or the other.
