The only models of SKS specifically banned by ca are those that accept a detachable magazine. I believe most if not all Russian variants are c&r eledigble, along with the yugo m59(not 59/66), and some of the Chinese models.

The most widely available C&R SKS variant is the Chinese Type 56. Classicarms sells them as well as JG sales but JG charges way too much in my opinion ($499). If you have a 03 FFL classicarms will sell you an all matching hand select rifle for $380 delivered. It's heck of a lot better than what people are asking for in the market place.

Good luck with your search!

I have one being shipped from Classic to my FFL. Wish I had my 03 but it would take to long IMO. I'll be paying extra because of it, tax and FFL fee's :(

The SKS will be the only legal semauto centerfire rifle we can own if all the bills become law. I'm glad I got a cool Paratrooper but I'm not glad that there will be gun stores going out of business because they can't sell products. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against the state of CA for lost in wages or something.

Huh?!
Hyperbole?

Is there another semiauto centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine, no bullet button, holds 10 rounds or less, no pistol grip and no evil feature? If you know please tell me because I do not know any. I'm serious, I really don't know any.

OK, thanks to all, I get extremely frustrated with the nonsense quoted to me from a growing number of sellers on GB.

Garand...

You got me there. The DOJ does not constitute the enbloc had a magazine.

The 30-06 is not nearly as affordable as the 7.62x39 though...

The Ruger 44mag carbine has tube mag & only holds four rounds I think if you can find one.
The Remington Model 8 & 81 have five round non detach mags but they quit making them in the early fifties.

Yikes I'm not sure I like those choices :p

Here is one to none of the bills passing. Cheers

Both versions of the Yugo are C&R eligible. The M59 and M59/66 are listed by name as C&R.

They have to be transfered through a dealer in California because they aren't old enough yet to be exempt. And the M59/66 has to have the grenade launcher removed or demil'd before it can enter California.

And the 762x39 is not nearly as awesome as the 30-06:D

But to stay on topic- Russian and Romanian are c&r eligible as are some of the Chinese that have been recently selling. Albanians are on the ATF list but I haven't seen any that are 50 years old

Better as in quality? For surplus rifles it's going to be different from rifle to rifle. If you are talking about the prestigious value then yes, Russians are more valuable but they are not worth the money people are asking for them. If you in the market for a shooter I think classic arms Chinese Type 56 will be good for you.

Yugo SKS can also be nice but they are not C&R. You will need to DROS them.

EDIT: You can also look into a SKS Paratrooper made by Norinco. They are cut down to a 16 inch barrel making it a lot more dandy than the original SKS. I love the one I have.

Here you go (http://www.classicfirearms.com/chicomsks)

If you have a 03FFL it comes out to be about $380 OTD for a rifle that's all matching and hand select for bore. Not bad for something delivered to your door.

To the best of my knowledge, the only SKS that would be illegal in California is one with a detachable magazine.

Mine was $342 shipped, didn't do the hand picked thing. I plan to bubba this one :) Add tax and Fee's since my '03 isn't in yet.

I was just curious, I ended up getting a Russian that seems to be in pretty nice condition. Will try it out this weekend and see how she shoots.

And black tips are relatively easy to come by in 30-06 :43:
