This would be my first rifle.

I've narrowed it down to LMT because of the overall positive feedback it has received.

I will just be using the rifle to target shoot indoor and outdoor.

Eventually I would like to do some real long range shooting (300yds) plus.

I know .223/5.56 platform has lots of accessories.

i noticed the AR10/.308 accessory market is limited compared to the .223/5.56

Both are great rifles and have different price points.

Please give me your Pro/Con advise.

Thanks in advance

If you want a 5.56 you can't go wrong with a MRP

If you want a .308 you can't go wrong with a MWS

If you can't afford both buy an AR-15 lower and buy the MWS that way you can buy the complete MRP upper when you want.

Personally, I'm not fond of the MRP. Way too heavy. But that's just my opinion.

With that being said, the two rifles are pretty much on the same platform, just different calibers. Currently, 5.56 will run you ~$0.40 a round. .308 is ~$0.65 a round. If you plan on shooting a lot, this may have some bearing on your decision.

As for distance, both will easily reach 300 yards.

Lastly, regarding accessories, what are you looking for on a 5.56 that doesn't exist on a .308? Anything that attaches to the rail can be used on both.

For your first rifle, just buy a S&W M&P 15-22.
Or
Ruger 10-22
You need trigger time and for it to be cheap.
Even with rising prices of .22 LR Ammunition it is still cheaper than 5.56 or .308

I don't you to be another guy who buys a rifle, then shoots it a few times and sells it some years later who barely got the chance to shoot it because ammo was so expensive.

Do yourself a favor, buy a .22 LR rifle, learn everything and then invest money once you have learned and will buy what you really want.

For the purpose of just shooting indoor and outdoor out to 300 yards, just get an ar15 with 20 inch barrel and an A2 stock. But if you really want an LMT, don't blame you, I want one too, I'll go with 5.56 due to mags availability.

For your first rifle.I would Get a Ruger 10/22.I think the best 22 rifle out there.Ammo is cheap.Me,I am partial to .308 AR's ,love them all.The LMT .308 is a tad heavy. But a good rifle compared to others. The only thing I like ,is the ease of changing barrells. This might not apeall to you though.
