I was borred at my father's in law's house, and ended going in the group buy on sh for rock barrels. Too cheap to ignore.

I didn't really get a present, so I bought one for myself. hehee. My 700p will be revamped with a new barrel, the same as my other one. Another AMU contour but not fluted. Saving a few bucks this time. Was going to go. 243 but didn't want to buy another set of dies, brass, etc. Keep it simple.

I'm going to have twins!

If you see a used aics stock, od or black let me know. I'm looking for a 1.5 or 2.0

You sure you don't want to go with a 5.5 contour??? The unfluted AMU is one heavy SOB. You should make one rifle more of an offhand, carry around rifle...a little lighter than the other.

Keeping the 308 is a good idea. Its easy to load for and components are everywhere. Barrel life is good so you'll get a lot of miles out of those bad boys.

Are we all on for thursday?

I'm in! No bipod though.. The bolt that holds everything together snapped in half..

it can get heavy, yes i agree. i've been lifting again monday to thursday, so i figure by june of next year, i should be somewhere close to where i was before on strength. i should be okay. it's only like a 2 pound difference at most. i'll offhand my current build, and use the next one for prone shooting, so i could decrease the population of bunnies next year in tehachapi.

i'm in for thursday!

Thanks for the offer. I guess it wouldn't hurt to keep it on hand. Figured i'd just shoot off my pack for the experience. Doh.. I need to start reloading..

I'm in for thursday :) That AMU barrel will be very heavy. I'm thinking of getting in on the buy as well. First I need to kit out my new compressor. I think I want a harbor frieght blasting cabinet to do some refinish work.

LOL..glad to see I wasn't the only one that bought himself something.

I jumped in on that group buy to rebarrel my 300WM. #7 MAX HV

The AMU contour is not that bad IMO. My SPR is .940 at the muzzle finished off at 24" AMU is .900

I can't stand brakes on anything that is not a magnum so extra weight on the 308s helps you stay on target easier.

If you're buying the setup just for a single project I may know somebody that would let you use their set up..

It wouldn't be for a single project but for what ever I decide to refinish being it guns or anything. I have been wanting to both refinish a couple of lowers and some rusted items in my garage. I will also be building an upper soon with a stainless barrel and will probably blast it to get that satin look to it.

I need to find a good airbrush. The one in the duracoat kit will probably not be of much quality for what I plan on doing with it.

I'm ready! The place I go is about 5 miles north of the intersection of tehachapi willow springs road (90th st. west) and rosamond blvd. You can mapquest it and see about how long it will take to get there. I'll go early and mark the dirt road to turn off on.

Mapquest will give you the directions you need. You'll end up going west on the dirt road. Its probably a little farther than 5 miles. Here's a satellite image of where to turn off:

For the most part. It depends on where we shoot from. If we move to areas inaccessible to the camry, you can jump in my car.

Nobody has contacted me yet as far as time and who to expect.

ryan, i'm a little worried about tomorrow. it's been really windy lately with winds up to 35mph. should we or shouldn't we shoot, it's up to you guys.

if we are getting a kentucky windage we'll be wasting ammo.

I was at angeles today to chrono loads and verify zero.
It got ugly around 3pm and the target stands would not hold together.
Forget about group shooting when the target is moving back and forth by at least 2" as the wind surges.

From my window, I usually grab my binocs and look at the windmills. If they're all turning, it usually means its windy. Right now about half of them are going. They crazy part is that it can be super windy here and out in the desert, nothing.

PistolPete75
12-27-2007, 10:30 PM
fun as always.

it was a cold day, about 38degress. elevation 3800ft and crosswinds from 5-15mph.

first target was 935yards. everyone shot high at first, and then we got it down.

second target was 550yards. it was too easy for everyone. everyone got it down real quick.

then moved back a little and went to 980yards. again, i shot high and took me the 3rd time to shoot it. crosswinds were definitely tricky at that range with crosswinds going from a steady 5mph and then it would jump all the way up to 15mph. everyone got a piece of it before we left.

ryan, jason, joe, and i had a blast as always. i took some photos, and will upload tomorrow.

next time we shoot that far, i'm sure we'll all be together.

i had a great time shooting as always. always a blast to be shooting with scprc.

If we keep the big one out past 500 yards, the 338 shouldn't be a problem. We'll try it. I hope you have enough money to feed that thing, though.

I had a great time. Its hard to see mirage when your line of sight is over 100 feet off the ground. That made it a little harder to judge wind. I'll try to get some steel made with Joe that we can setup and leave out there...where dirt bikers don't go!
