A historical perspective by Michael Hodges on the impact of the AK-47: http://media.news.com.au/multimedia/mediaplayer/skins/black/index.html?id=674

Most pics safe for work.

I am certainly adding this new book to my Christmas list, after viewing the pictorial :santa:

Yes, very well done, unbiased at least the interview. Didnt think I would ever build and own a WMD.

really good video. loved it. the AK is really cool IMO. the author pretty much had everything down. it explains why there's so many of you guys with AK's - once you get it in your blood you can't turn back, like HIV!:D:p

Great interview. I haven't grown that attached to my AK after a year and a half of owning it. Maybe I'll like her more after I shoot her. I really liked the part when he said "Even if you're 9, if you've got an AK you've become the most important man in the room" :D

"...but what it does, it sows the seed of war in the future. Cause you can always take your AK and start again, if you don't like the peace"..
And that is the whole point. :coolgleamA:

Wouldn't trade my Saiga for any AR period.

the trick is to have both like a yin yang. I can't imagine getting rid of either

excellent!
I found a pic I was looking for but can't save it.:(
second part 1:51
An old woman uses her gun to stand during civilian training. Pic: AP.

A few feg rifles have smooth top covers on the akm and amms but they're rare and I've been looking for pictures of one since I have a kit. :)

As far as a pure fighting rifle, it's hard to beat an AK - given a choice of issue rifles, I'd take an AK over any non gas piston 16 platform any day of the week.

I've heard AK's called many different things but that's the first time i've ever heard them referred to as the people's gun. I like it.

Funny thing is, before the AWB i never was really interested in any type of "people's gun". Till the state said i didn't need one and, after a specific date, i couldn't have one. Then i wanted one. I had never fired, much less handled one. So i went down to the local gun emporium, picked out an AK, paid for it, waited my 10 days and took it home.

I wish i could buy a couple more.

.

The Maxim machine gun is "The Devil's Paintbrush"! History Channel had an AK episode before. Phil Spangenberger mentions that to many the AK represents Communism and oppression but to others it repersents freedom and another chance. I agree.

I always found it interesting that the Armalite is kind of though of the same way in Northern Ireland but you still see a lot of Ak's in the political murals up there.

None of my homebuilt CA compliant AKs have ever failed to go bang. That says a lot for the platform IMHO.

I recently attended a defensive rifle class. I was the only one that picthed up with a stock combloc weapon. The rest were highend AR's (wilson, LMT uppers etc.), a mini 14 and a M1A scout.

Guess which one had zero malfunctions :)

I love my AK. Ya just need to swap out the rear sights and maybe the frontsight and you are good to go.

Cheers,
Ed

Great share... funny thing my buddy covered Chechnya and HATED AK-47's because he was getting shot at by them when he was embedded... till he tried one in the desert a few weeks ago. He now says 'that thing is a lot of fun to shoot!" ;)
