View Full Version : Best Soft cases for scoped AR?

Who makes a good quality soft cased for a scoped AR. I am looking for a company that perhaps has something a bit more unique and the best quality. Online links please? I was thinking of Blackhawk cases, but really wondering if the price lives up to the quality.

I was thinking about a hardcase, but I change my configurations too much, and I don't want to have to order a hardcase for every rifle I own in the future lol.

I-Shot are the best cases I've seen, I own three. Unfortunately they are going through a small makeover right now and are out of most items. They are changing to a US manufacturer for their products. Thats right, they were made overseas and are now going to be made here in the US. :D
They will have them back in stock in January.
IMHO they are worth the wait.

Those that have the I-shot cases what length are you running. I have a 16" w/ Magpul M93B and 18" scoped build both with Magpul PRS.

I tried contacting them via email over a week ago an still haven't heard anything. Do you guys know when they will be back in business?

If you want something different and discreet, there's Cavalry Arm's Discreet Rifle Bag.

http://www.cavalryarms.com/DRB.html

The Cavalry Arms Discreet Rifle Bag is designed for carrying a rifle in non-permissive environments. Fully padded with a configurable internal divider, the Discreet Rifle Bag can carry up to a 20" AR15 broken down and six 30-round magazines. The case works with short barreled AR15s assembled, and folding stock AK-47 style rifles.

Internal dimensions are 25.5" Long x 6" Wide x 5.5" deep. The bag has room to stretch/bend in all directions.

Those look really nice but I'd have a hard time shelling out $160 for a case like that. I wonder if we can get a massive group buy going and get them for closer to $100. Anybody know where they're made? Here in the US out out somewheres like China? That'll probably give us a good idea of how low we can fanangle the price. I do like their sales movie on youtube though :D

not quite the same kind of thread as "best case" you're looking for. but i had a hard time choosing my case also because wanted a multi-build gun case (since cutting foam on a hard case would more or less limit me to 1 type of rifle, unless i stock different foam for future builds)

Those look pretty good for the money. So $45 at the show? They are priced at $59.95 on their site right now, and that is listed as a sale price.

Edit: That looks exactly like this item I just found at CTD for $43, but I imagine the shipping is going to be a bit high:

The case I posted can hold my 20" AR-15 w/ A2 upper, 50mm sunshade scope on carry handle mount, A2 stock, Delta-style cheek rest, pistol grip, YHM Phantom flash hider(longer than A2 birdcage), 10 round fixed Bushmaster mag(I refuse to call them 10/20 mags because they are not dimensionally identical to curved 20 round mags), Harris-type bi-pod, forward vertical grip. Also holds my 10/22 w/ folded up stock in the accessory compartment. It's a snug fit, but doable.

You can order extra straps that hold your rifles to the PALS webbing, so it would depend on how wide or deep your rifles are. I'm sure I could strap a lever action rifle and a shotgun inside the case and another shorter one inside the where the mags pouches are.

+1 on the Voodoo. Has carry handle, shoulder strap, and backpack straps. Padded through, molle points, very secure, 4 outer compartments, and come in 36" carbine/ 42" rifle. Its not the best IMHO but for just toting your weapon around from car to range/camping it will surely fit your bill and last you a very long time.

If your looking for the best.... then your asking for alot. BHI, Eagle, SERT, Galati, TacForce, Diamondback, 5.11, etc etc all have great gear and made with the same damn material. They all make different features though. You really cant go wrong if you find the ONE that is made with the options you want.

It didn't bounce, but I didn't get a reply either. Since I need more than one anyway I decided to order a couple of the 42" MOLLE cases from Cheaper Than Dirt. The total with shipping for 2 cases (one black and one Tan) was under $100.00. I'll let you know how good they are but they have positive customer reviews on their site:

I'm pretty sure the inexpensive Molle cases in this thread (like the CTD and captaindaves) are all UTG. Their soft goods get very good reviews, though there are always UTG haters who throw rocks at everything they make, calling them chicom airsoft junk. Everyone who owns them say they have great performance for the money.

Both captaindaves and CTD sell them on ebay as well, and captaindave's shipping is quite a bit more expensive. CTD shipping was only $8.

My grail soft case is one that will hold a complete rifle and a spare upper. This one looks like a good bet, and isn't super expensive ($70 or so), but the compartments aren't that tall. I'd like to see one in person before ordering:

You can buy extra straps on their web page. How many will fit depends on what you're trying to put in it. Also you can store another firearm in the other side by taking the pouches out.

Actually I mean how many compartments. It looks like one larger and one smaller? Are you supposed to put 2 guns opposing each other, and the outer compartment is for mags?

Why not a guitar case?

Definitely discreet, they are no where near as expensive as a 'gun' case. You can usually go to a guitar place and scope out some really nice ones.

Because I'm looking for a Gun case not a guitar case. I am looking to put a 16" and 18" scope AR and have room for mags. I want something made for my gun like I said.

I've got one of my scoped FAL's in a 'soft' guitar case (staccato bass, LOL!). I have not done so, but if you are looking for something more fitted to your particular rifle you could do the foam cut out bit. This particular case came with a pretty good size bag (like large bookbag) that quick-released onto the guitar case itself, and padded backpack type straps. The clip on bag makes a nice, compartmented range bag. The whole deal was like $40, which was much less than I expected. The old farts chuckle when I stroll up to the firing line with it.:) I'd definitely say that this case is nicer than my AR's soft Galati case. Stitching, padding, the whole bit.

You might check out the musical instrument soft cases, when I did so it was really on a lark. I was suprised on what I found. 10-4 if you're looking for a dedicated gun case though.

You must have an obsessions with Antonio Bandera's and his guitar case with weapons in the them haha. I ended up dropping by CPD (pelican & skb case distributor) and bought a 1720 hard wheeled case. It fits 1 scoped 18" AR, and another up to 18" with no scope. I may just use it for the scoped AR and my shotgun. Also bought there M9 (5 pack) which is supposed to hold (5) M9's but I'm going to store 3 other handguns with mags in. I'd still like a soft case, because the hard case for the AR is just a beast to carry around. Call me a case junky.

Well after buying the Pelican 1720 case and putting my non scoped POF 18" AR in, and my Benelli M2 Tactical....it is VERY tight around the edges. It's too close for comfort, not to mention because of the type of handguard on my POF 18" build the case does not want to close. I have to basically stomp on the case in order to get it to close. Looks like I will have to find something a bit wider and deeper.

At first I removed the bottom of the foam, the gun fits fine (depth wise) and the lid closes, but the guns slide around, and basically defeats the purpose of sandwiching it between the foam.

Overall I am pleased with them - they are worth the money. Personally, I wish these cases had a couple more inches of height in them but my rifles fit in them just fine. An AR with a large scope and a 30 round mag body may not fit with the magazine in place.
