you mean the rifle that Randy is building? or where is my rifle? Randy is building a .308 aics build for me. my remington 700 p is taken apart. Sunday is a no go. I'm going to meet up with some guys on this forum to start a project together on a build.

i've been shooting my other 700 in .223 i like it, it's fun to shoot but the bullet is too sensitive with the wind on the 55grainers. 2 mil hold off at the 400 steel at aps. it's fun though. next week will be good. this weekend is a no go.

PistolPete75
12-03-2007, 10:06 PM
where can you shoot 1k at piru? once i get a 30cal rifle put back together, i'm down to go shoot 1k. piru is not a bad drive at all from where we are.

I'm down if you know a spot out there. Is it a range or BLM? I only Have my rifle doped out to 600 since i've reassembled it.. but I should be able to extrapolate the rest.

ya most likely, i won't be shooting seriously till Feb. i'm going to plink my .223 bolt action at APS to hold my cravings over.

i know there is a shooting range in Piru. never been there, but i don't think their rifle range goes to 1k. it does get windy there too especially in the winter.

Worst comes to worse.. it'll be another weekend at Burro for me.

Good part: I'm usually the only one there so I drive back and forth from my target as I please.

Bad part: It'll probably get closed down if more people don't start using it.

PistolPete75

yep, waiting very anxiously on it. he said typical builds are doing .2 to .3moa

and he said my scenars should be grouping the best on them.

match chamber designed specifically for fgmm and lupua brass with 155 to 175grainers.

guess it's time to try out Lupua brass again. time to go hot, c'mon 2950fps with extreme accuracy! crossing my fingers! :0)

i think i'm switching powder to RL15 46.2 grains of it, out of Lupua brass, cci br2, and 155 scenars. 2.830oal. better velocity out of rl15 than varget, although rl15 is a little dirtier but softer to shoot.

and my go to load with fgmm brass, 168 noslers, imr 4064, and cci br2. these will be my two loads. i might substitute the imr 4064 to varget to get rid of the temperature senstitive issues.

10 days left. :)

Randy builds good ****. I was talked into staying with 308s for the most part.
Im starting to look around for parts to build an 308 in an AICS. I kinda gave up on the AR10 idea. My current AR15 became more of an steal banging gun that my girl friends use. I use the m1a and bolt guns now.

Dont worry about using the lapua brass pete, win should do just fine man. You also wont pull your hair out when you lose one. Anyone wana order some 155gr scenars from powder valley? Im down for 1,000+, some powder and primers. Do they give a discount for buyinh 2500 bullets? whos down?

PETE!!!!!!!!!!!! Work up to your old loads man, these guns have tight chambers, unlike the rem700s. You WILL get high pressure with the new chamber. Just giving you an heads up man. Also id shoot varget over 15. I hear people only getting 2850fps i like 2900fps range. Also give IMr4895 a try, Randy loves that stuff.

PistolPete75
12-04-2007, 8:39 PM
i'm going to use my old nosler brass first. they have some life left in them. those things are built like a tank. since the reamers are designed for the lupua brass, i'm going to use lupua brass. ya they are expensive, and the last batch only last me a few loads. hopefully they were just a bad batch. i'll give them one last try.

i got my scenar data load from 6mmbr, so they should be good to go. that data said it was shot from a rock barrel, so i'm thinking it'll be fine. probably had a tight chamber too.

btw, i saw your rifle sitting in his living room. looked nice. my rifle will be the next one out. i can't wait.

DON'T go straight to a hot load like that. Every barrel is different and you NEED to work up to whats safe. Don't want you to break anything your first time out with your new rifle.

Or if you really must do that.. at least load up a few rounds with incrementally less powder until you reach whatever load you found while checking for pressure signs.

Hey Pete, out of my factory barrel, 46.5 got me 2900+ fps from a 1-12 22.25" barrel. 45.5 got me 2900 fps from my old Savage with a 1-10 24" barrel. Rock barrels are supposed to be fast barrels. Look at SH reloading forum and look t what they are getting.

Pete,

Not ALL Rifles Are Created Equal - So, PLEASE Work up the load, The chamber is Tight & You cannot Assume that any information you see on the web, 6mmBR or ???.com/net-whatever, will do for your new rig. DO NOT Use other Peoples Reloading Data/Recipes. Start LOW / SLOW & Work Up to "Your" Load.

Trust me, This happens A LOT. Folks get a 700?/??? Trued/Rebarreled w/ a Tighter/Match Chamber & try to use their old load used in their factory Rifle. And, end up with a stuck Bolt -or- COULD BE WORSE = Damage to Face/Hand; Rifle.

As for your previously factory chamber fired brass. If you don't already have one, Your going to need a Tight FL Sizing Die that will Size those Case Bodies Down A Lot. Some time back I went through the WTFreak??? stage with my previous rifle that had a Match Chamber & couldnt load rounds or had difficulty due to the bolt body not being sized properly. With direction from a great member, I purchased the Forster NM - NATIONAL MATCH FL Sizing Die & GTG !!!

Alot of folks use IMR4895 w/ the 155 Scenars instead of RL15/Varget as it is a faster burning powder to obtain more fps., DO NOT use the same amount of IMR4895 as you would RL15 or etc. IMR4895 loads are usually a grain or MORE LOWER than others like RL15 Varget. But, IMR4895 in Extreme heat seems to have temp. sens. challenges. But, most powder due @ 110-115+ F

Prc329
12-05-2007, 11:14 AM
My 4895 load is a full grain lower then the rl15 load

Timberwolf

4895 is faster than RE15

PistolPete75
12-05-2007, 11:59 AM
ya, i have a forestor fullsize die. i've also used 4895, but only on with 175smk, and the results were not that great.

don't worry i won't blow myself up or mess up the rifle. i can't afford to build another one anyways.

i might just start with varget too, i'm not sure yet. 45-45.5+ of varget with the scenars. anyways, it'll be a long, long time till my scope is done anyways.
