The Govenator has just signed SB 269 which states:

"Existing law exempts certain specified handguns from satisfying the requirements necessary for a handgun not to be classified as unsafe.
This bill would also exempt single-shot pistols with a barrel
length of not less than 6 inches and which has an overall length of
at least 101/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel
are assembled."

Does this mean we can now buy T/C Contender pistols in Kalifornia?!? :D

Yes it does, but not until January 1, 2006. So a T/C Contender might make a great Festivus present.

Sure you claim to love festivus. But you always wuss out on the feats of strength.

As far as your opinion on the TC Contender ,Amendment II , if you had a few more posts it might give you some credibility, nooob :p .

This law would have been great, with the original provision that cosmetic changes (different finish), and caliber, do not need to be retested to be considered "safe".

Since the bill was neutered, it's not quite as big a win.

Yea, but it still bumps a Thompson/Center Contender pistol to near the top of my wish list! ;)

Whats the difference between the Contender and the Encore? Seems that the Encore has more calibers to pick from. A pistol in 308 or 30/06 sounds mighty nice.

I think the contender has a lower limit as to the power of the cartidges that can be used with it, if you want to shoot most of the rifle cartridges then you need an encore.

Oh... I GET IT!! :D :D :D

Meanwhile, where is my penny/nickel/dollar jar??? I need to scratch together some SCRATCH so I can buy a (another) TC as soon as it's legal! How nice that I didn't spend (way way) too much on my other one, which will no longer be so exclusive, and now be worth much less!

Ah, I guess I should focus on the positives here. Small steps back to sanity!

Anyone know of any gun stores in LA/OC that plan on carrying the G2 Contender pistols?

Also, will sb269 allow the .45lc/.410 barrel to be used in CA? I think it's catagorized as a sawed off shotgun. Thanks!

Damn, you guys do realize you are getting a hard-on over a single-shot pistol right? Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it is kinda sad when you think about it.

The "unavailable" is always more desirable !

Single Shot pistols rock.

You can do the whole spectrum from .17 through all the pistol and rifle calibers under .50 Caliber!

Ever squeeze the trigger on a 16" Contender in 45-70?
Ever Drop a Hog witha 14" Contender in 41 Magnum?
Take a Whitetail or a Muley with a .308 fired from a Savage Stiker?
Knocked down a Ram with an XP-100 in 7mm BR?

Contenders are true hand cannons...you lose no energy or velocity because of the sealed breech.

The fact that these guns were banned by misguided legislation was a travesty.

How are you ever going to turn the tide if you don't start fighting to repeal your state's insane laws?

Yes, and I don't want to do that no more.

As much as we have to fight everyone right lost, we must celebrate every right won!

Has anyone been able to purchase a T/C Contender pistol in CA yet? I've been asking my local FFL and even emailed the CA DOJ because I can't find anything about this act on their web site http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/. Does anyone have an update on whether this law is in effect?

The new law about single shot pistols is on the CRPA web site

I just realized that Rogue Rifle's single shot rimfires (http://www.roguerifle.com/pistols.htm) seem to fall into this exemption. The law says single shot but doesn't specify action type, and they definitely meet the length requirement.
