Magpul CTR

LMT SOPMOD

VLTOR

I am looking for one of these stocks where there is no play etc.

Not worried about the cost.

Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Addax

I love my CTR stock. It is rock solid and comfortable.

Big fan of the CTR!

well the magpul ctr has 0 movement, but i like the vltor emod better. the ctr just looks weird, and lacks storage compartments. but the vltor emod has a nice recoil pad, and plenty of storage compartments, and has almost no play.

I have the Vltor carbine Modstock and it is solid....i had the SOPMOD but the it kept rattling from the extension lever. had to use a rubber band to keep it from rattling so much...

After fondling them all at the gunshow, I really like the CTR and SOPMOD. The SOPMOD had no movement when I fiddled with it, but maybe that's because I'm used to standard 6 position stocks.

While I am partial to the CTR as it locks up pretty nicely, the SOPMOD win the day. On a Milspec tube a SOPMOD is about as silky as it get's and does not rattle at all. And that cheekweld have ye to be beaten by anything else I've tried. I don't have one however. For the price I am happy with my CTR and my $250 will be going toward a UBR and not a SOPMOD.

I've got both the LMT SOPMOD and the Vltor (clubfoot) on different builds. No experience with the Magpul CTR.

Between the SOPMOD and the Vltor, I prefer the SOPMOD. It feels more substantial, and has less movement in all positions than the Vltor. Don't get me wrong, the Vltor is nice too, but I rank it below the SOPMOD. Only downside, for me, to the great cheekweld of the SOPMOD is that it also forces my head so far away from the center line of the rifle that my rear BUIS is cranked pretty far over to get a zero, so much so that if I ever needed much of a windage adjustment in that direction I'd be SOL. However, the need for windage adjustment on what is, essentially, a CQB build, will likely never arise in a real world situation. In fact, the BUIS will likely never get used in a real world situation either, since I've got an EOTech 512 on that build, and if the EOTech didn't get the job done for me, well . . . let's just say I hope whoever comes by and picks up my rifle has better luck with it than I did!

I've owned a CTR and a Vltor. I thought the CTR was a much better stock.

If you are qualifying "better" purely by the amount of movement, the CTR with it's "anti-movement" latch is certainly better.
If you want the most comfortable stock, that's the LMT.
The LMT is very snug, just loose enough that you can actually slide it, but it's not as solid as the LOCKED CTR.
The LMT is more solid than an unlocked CTR.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys.

Looks like there is allot of positive feedback on the Magpul, and some on the SOPMOD and Vltor.

I had a chance to look at the Vltor and Magpul stocks yesterday and I really liked both, so it came down to preference, so I chose the Vltor EMOD Kit with the battery compartment etc.

I am waiting for the new Magpul UBR stock to come out, then I will pick up one of these too.

I remember.

I think I saw that AK last night at Metroshot, those are very nicely built ones.

Thanks for the input on the stocks.

Right after you left,

I must have seen another customers rifle they had in the store.

Really nice finish work on that rifle.

I have Vltors and I'd stick with an A2 before spending the $$$ again.

I own or have owned nearly every carbine stock on the market (except for junk like CAA stocks)...Magpul M93/M93A2/M93B, Magpul CTR Pre-Production/Production, Vltor Modstock Standard/Clubfoot, Vltor EMOD, LMT SOPMOD, Ace M4 SOCOM/AR15 Ultralight Entry/ARFX Entry, Sully Stock, Colt M4 Stock and the OG Colt CAR stock...

The Vltor EMOD and LMT SOPMOD definitely take top honors all around. The CTR is great for a lightweight, no storage stock. I was going to add a UBR to my collection but it's just way too heavy. The EMOD is as heavy as I'd want to go for the rear end (I also use a 9mm buffer in my 5.56mm rifles so I have enough tail weight)

You might be biased.

I like my M16 (pre A1 updates) with a regular pistol grip.
Of course I have AW's. :)

I believed all 3 that u listed don't have any "play".

But you should check out the new Vltor Emod, that is similar to the LMT but even more comfortable.

Old habits are hard to break. I really enjoy the SOPMODS. The new EMOD isn't bad either.
