I'll be looking into refinishing the grips on my single action revolvers and the stock & forearm on my levergun in the near future. They are American Black Walnut and currently sport what looks like a high gloss varnish on them. I'd like to sand them down and refinish them in something that will give them an older, more authentic worn in Old West look. Also I think this will help improve my grip on my .45's when firing quickly (right now my hand has a tendancy to ride up on the grip frame by the 3rd round).

Anyone have any suggestions for an appropriate Oil to use on Black Walnut to give it an "aged" or "well worn" appearance, as well as providing a good grip surface?

I can try and provide some pictures to give a better idea of what it looks like in its current state.

LCW has a solvent base as well and a whole line of top coats.
