View Full Version : SU-16CA extras

I just filled out the DROS paperwork for 2 SU-16CA rifles last night..since i have ten day till i pick them up i figured i should start ordering the accessories i need.

First thing is muzzle break. I know threaded AR muzzle breaks fit but are they all the same diameter. On my old AR it seemed like it would be too bulky for the much smaller SU-16. Anyone have any muzzle break experience on these with a small but effective break?

Second is optics. Does picatinny = weaver style rail?
I would most likely go with a mid range red/green dot from cabela's.
I see tons of them under $80 by trueglo, BSA, Cabela's. Any of them i should steer clear of?
This one is on sale for $20
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0047314712601a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=40&Ntt=red+dot&noImage=0&Ntk=Products&QueryText=red+dot&Ntx=matchall&N=4887&Nty=1

What about this cabela's open red dot scope
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0041011712611a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=red+dot&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=red+dot&noImage=0
One last thing..this will be mostly used for plinking..that being said would any magnification red dot be helpfull? like this one.
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0037647712748a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=60&noImage=0&Ntt=red+dot&Ntk=Products&QueryText=red+dot&Ntx=matchall&N=4887&Nty=1

Thanks for your guys help.

I find your username to be a detriment to firearm owners. Perhaps you should think about changing it.

AR muzzle breaks are pretty standard. A lot of people put the Yankee Hill Machine Shop Phantom Break. Others like the Smith Enterprises Compensator.

I don't know about optics.

For my CA, I got a TruGlo red dot with the 2x magnification.

Not a great product, but a good one. And the 2x takes some getting used to and works best if you shoot with both eyes open. It has a very narrow field of view.

cheap gun deserves cheap accessories. Mine has a $40.00 Tasco "world class" scope 3-9x40, cheap bipod, and bushmaster AK-style muzzle brake. The AK style brake is very small so I like it alot. Most people seem to like the Levang linear compensator. You may want to get a bushmaster extractor to replace your stock kel tec extractor. Your first experience may have you feeling like you made a big mistake buying the gun if you get alot of FTEs but changing the extractor seems to make alot of people happy.

Accessories are IMO a personal thing, something you decide over time. I'd fire the gun, then go from there. You may find you don't need accessories, or the ones you get may not fit your style of shooting.

Although a Acog would look nice :)

Already admitted, I'm going to hell.

Your name doesn't bother me, his is specific.

I would be comfortable with "LongRangedSniper" "Assasin" and most anything a bit generic.

"IkilledJFK" is a bit much for a site that is promoting the honest and safe ownership and use of firearms.

This is california. People read this site. Not all who read this site believe in the 2nd amendment....

use common sense. Please.

- I think your screen name is hilarious!:gun_bandana:
- Weaver is not Picatinny, but they can sometimes interface
- get an Aimclone , like the one from 1337tactical (http://www.1337tactical.com/shop/productview.php?productId=112)

First thing is muzzle break. I know threaded AR muzzle breaks fit but are they all the same diameter.

I put one of these on my SU-16CA:
http://riflegear.com/p-264-yankee-hill-phantom-muzzle-brake-223556mm-flat-end.aspx

Anything that fits 1/2"x28 thread will work.

I have a SU-16CA and think it is a fine rifle for the 'cheap' price $600. Mine has the compact front grip and DPMS linear muzzle break which seems to direct much of the blast away from the shooter. For a sight I put a Trijicon RX09 I found at the sample list. A no hassles rifle that will shoot some suprising groups! It is not my SHTF gun but I think it has gotten a lot of unwarranted bad press.

keep the thread protector on there that came with the rifle.

I have a box full of FH and MB that I don't like becuase of a "iffy / iggy definition of 'flash hider' by the DOJ BOF" - basically anything could be called a flash hider with that definition.

and

they don't do that much other than add length and weight.

Keep your rifle featureless and stay in the clear.

Well first of all thanks for the replies. It really helps me on narrowing down the accesories.
What mm size of lens is preferable?
Secondly..lighten up people.
Can you really compare 2pac to JFK??
I hate rap, just because my name (an old gaming screen name) is I shot 2Pac do you think that really means i wanted him murdered in cold blood.

Besides everyone knows he faked his death and is hiding in cuba.

Geeze..you guys must be crack ups at parties :D

My CA has a truglo 2x red dot and its awesome for what it is. Once i set it i havent had to change it, however if you take it off the rail you will have to re-zero. There are no markings on the rail and it is plastic, the mount will never grab the same twice. Ive kept mine on the whole time.

Its a fun plinker gun but within 3 trips to the range im bored with it. Im building an AR now.

I'm not a Tupac fan, and really could not care less about him. Let me explain why you should change your username. As gun owners we attempt to maintain a level of ethical conduct. Your name implies a ghetto, gang member type persona. Gangs have done a lot of damage to society and the gun owners in America. By naming yourself "Ishot2pac", it sounds like you are a gang member. You would also be idolized by a lot of gang members. Let's try and prevent negative stereotypes of gun owners. The last thing that we want is a news reporters trying to connect Cal-Guns to gang activity, and culture.

Calguns is not a hangout for murderers, or gang members.

"iShot2pac" please change your username. There are a lot of members here, that care about this board and forum. You haven't been here long, and I know that it takes a while to get the feel of things here.

I don't care what you name yourself, hell I'm nicknamed after a food product. The difference between Assassin, Hitman etc are different in the sense they do not directly attack a person.

Think of it like this... If we all had names such as, "I want to kill" or "I killed" or "I dream of murder" or "I Heart massmurders" or "I support killing people" this forum wouldn't last very long. Its a basic respect for the hobby.

In the end the 1st Ad doesn't apply on a privately owned internet forum. Its strictly up to the Mods if they think its ok. With that said, I could generally careless what you do...

anywho, enjoy the .223!

Besides i'm a tattooed 29 year old white boy in East County SD that the closest i've been to gang activity was watching "Boys in the Hood" :D

I'd wait on ordering the accesories. I know it can be exciting when getting a new rifle to peruse all the things that can go with it.

But, in my opinion it's best to just use a rifle in its stock confiuration for a while. See how you like it. You may find you don't care for it. You may love it. And, then you'll also have a sense of what you'd want to tweak or add to make it fit you better.

Have fun.

I agree with Tony, I bought all the gizmos for my SU-16CA while it was in 10 day hell. Now I have an overpriced rifle that I cannot get my money out of.

My Kel-Tec has FTF issues all the time. I do like the look of it, and I bought the compact forearm, YHM Muzzle brake, and a takedown pin from Home Depot. I do like that I can use my preban, mags with it, and my wife seems to like ti because it is so light. Otherwise, It's far from my favorite rifle.

Shoot it, then buy the stuff, you may or may not want to keep it long.

I have a SU16Ca that I fired for the first time yesterday. It was fun to shoot, except for the FTF and extractor problem . Im gonna replace the extractor and see if that helps any.

What makes you think you even have a 1st Amendment right to free speech here?

You do know the difference between a private entity and a Government owned or sanctioned body, right?

Just to expound a bit, here we have a set of rules on what can be posted or said. No porn, no death threats, no personal insults or denigrating statements to other members and such. These do not violate anyone's 1st Amend. right as this is a privately owned entity and therefore not acting on behalf of the Govt.

Were these kind of restrictions placed on what could be said in a venue controlled by the Government then you would have a 1st Amend. issue.

So thats an ejector system upgrade for the keltec?

I picked one up off eBay for under $20. The original jammed on me a couple times my first day out, but it's been functioning perfectly every since the upgrade.
