View Full Version : Winchester 94 questions

I recently acquired a Winchester 94 in 30-30 manufactured in 1956, and have a couple of questions.

It has a Lyman receiver peep sight that looks like a model 66A. The sight is marked internally K 72. Would this have been factory original, or aftermarket?

Also, I need to get a replacement buttstock. The original appears to have been cutdown, and then the cut piece reattached. Does anyone have a recommendation for good quality replacement butt stocks or stock sets? Cabela's and Brownell's have them. Anybody have experience with those?

Is there any hope of getting a good match to the existing forend finish, or am I better off to replace them both?

For the straight stock, what would the factory buttplate have been?

Looks like it will be a good shooter, I just can't deal with that messed up stock repair.

Have you registered on Leverguns.com? This would be an excellent resource for you and that Win 94. It has been for me. I have a 94 in .357 mag.

http://www.leverguns.com/ is the place to go.

I put the same questions up on Gunboards Winchester forum, but that one seems to have gone dormant since their big changeover.

I didn't know about leverguns.com. I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Paco's Leverguns site is definitely the place to go. The home site has articles, links, books, etc...

The forum ( http://leverguns.sixgunner.com/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=2 ) has quite a few people who can answer probably any question there is about Levers, especially about your buttplate and the Lyman.

There are at least two places to get replacement stocks.

Congrats on your Winchester. Sounds like it may be something a bit special.
