View Full Version : What's a good "blue" to get?

Earlier today I stripped off old bluing and rust from some M1 Carbine mags and re-blued them with 44/40. I'm pretty unhappy with the results. It left an uneven, flat black coating rather than the nice shiny blue/black original.
I'm sure my prep wasn't perfect, so I am willing to try again, but I'd like to do it with something that'll leave a better finish. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've used Oxpho Blue with decent results after repeated applications and lots of scrubbing with steel wool. No cold blue will give you any decent rust protection though. Keep it covered with a thin coat of cosmo, or RIG and you'll be ok.

Find someone that does hot blueing.

Got it, thanks.
Do you happen to know anyone around the LA area that does it?
