My boss just called me into his office and asked if I was shipping any automatic firearms to our business address. Apparently Homeland called him and asked if there were any AR-15 automatic guns being shipped to our address. I told him I have had some AR-15 parts shipped to our address, such as Magpul butt stock and quad rail. My boss knows little about guns and his information was pretty vague. Should I be concerned about this?

I dont see a need for concern. Unless you boss puts up more of a stink, I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.
Edit: I do find it strange that the Homeland Security contacted your work though

So wait, DHS asked if "any AR-15 automatic guns" were being shipped to your address?

Twice. I've re-read this twice and it still doesn't make any sense to me.

It doesnt really make sense to me either. Yes they anyone here was recieving automatic weapons and the word AR-15 came into the conversation. Again my infomration is limited from the already limited information my boss gave me. I told him to contact his guy at Homeland and let him know that only a few parts were shipped for a CA Legal AR-15 not fully automatic and registered.

Why would you recieve ANYTHING at work? I'd keep my personal life separate unless it's YOUR family owned business.

Keep your business to youself. If the Boss is worried about ANY liability you're gone. I'd personally be concerned enough to start looking for another job just in case you get canned and remember NO ONE needs to know about your hobby. Specifically if they don't understand it.

I wouldn't want ANY customer, Employee, Vendor, Client to know my personal business. IF it's not work related leave it at home.

I promise you it is not a major concern of my employer. We have a small business and cant fire me for many reasons. I am not going to get into my job status, but that is not what I am worried about.

He just asked that I ship things of that nature to my house address from now on and of course I complied.

Good to hear you have job security. And Glad to hear it is not a major concern of my employer.

I think this should be a serious concern.

Why would DHS be involved with any of this to begin with? Shouldn't the ATF be ones investigating something like this?

How did they have any knowledge that you had ar parts shipped to work?

What lead them to believe they were controlled parts, such as recievers, complete rifles, or NFA items?

Why in the hell would they call and ask, "Hey are you doing anything illegal?"
What a bunch of crap is that? Even if you were receiving restricted items, it's not like you would say yes.

I would go back to the company you ordered those parts for and ask for an explaination as to why DHS is calling your work about a stock and a rail unit. There could be some serious privacy issues. Hopefully, it doesn't mean the company you ordered from is under investigation for not following the rules, such as mailing complete rifles as parts, etc.

Also, it could of been tracked from credit cards not from the company that he bought them from.

I have made purchases from the following dealers recently:

www.cheaperthandirt.com (UTG Quad Rail)
www.coldwarshooters.com (Rail Covers)
www.metroshotfirearms.com (30/10 Pmag Magazine)
www.ShootForLess.com (Bushnell MP Trophy & Magpul CTR buttstock)

These were all purchased on my Credit Card and shipped to my work address.

Has anyone heard of anything similar regarding one of these issues? Very strange for Homeland Security to call and ask.

it's just one of your tool anti-gun workers making a prank call trying to get you in trouble or possibly fired. They probably know that you have gun parts shipped to your work & just trying to get you in hot soup.

Ask your boss if the DHS agent left a contact # & info so you can check it out. Remind him that it is illegal to impersonate a LEO or agent.

I personally call BS on your boss. If DHS has a bone to pick with you, you would be feeling a whole lot of hurt down there & spitting out shoe leather by now.

I agree.
What if you were committing a crime? They going to just call and ask if you are so you can stash the goodies? No, they'd show up on your doorstep at about 3am asking to come in.

I have contacted all but the people at shootforless.com (aka OpticsPlus) who had a disconnected phone number. No of them knew anything of the situation and claimed they do not give out personal information.

My boss was wondering the same thing. He said his name was John Grant and I am going to get his phone # soon. My boss questioned his validity. I got his phone # but he was not available. I am assuming he went to lunch. I am going to try him again in about an hour or so.

One one hand...
It could be legit. DHS might have been investigating one or more of the companies and someone saw lots of AR parts going to CA (hey, ain't AR's illegal in CA? Wtf?) and the agent's lack of knowledge about OLLs and CA law caused a query. Or it may be that credit card number has seen a number of "gun-related" purchases in the last 'x' months and triggered a query.

On the other hand...
It may be someone in your company opened a box before it arrived on your desk, their eyes popped out like a cartoon character and before they wet themselves they blabbered to the boss that you were getting "machinegun stuff - y'know like those AR15 guns the military uses!"

On the third hand...
Yeah, it might be anti-gun pixies out there trying to get you into trouble with your boss. Unlikely, but possible.

Contact each of the companies and inquire with them if there is any reason such private transaction info would be leaked to DHS.

Sounds like your boss is lieing and trying to be a nice guy by making a BS story to get you to stop having stuff shipped to work. Homeland Security wouldn't be handling this, ATF would. And they wouldn't call asking "Are you conducting illegal activities, if so please tell us."

At my last job I got a call from someone saying that he was from Homeland Security, and that he had to get some important pictures developed.

I say, sure, whatever bring them on down.

He was a baggage screener at the airport.

+1 on prank call or your boss making it up.

This does sound kind of weird. When I was working (am now retired) I had a Enfield and a Reproduction Musket shipped to my work address and no problem. In fact everyone wanted to hold them! Of course I warned the mail guy ahead of time what was coming by UPS, I think, and there was no problem. By the way this was a State Government office even.

Well apparantley they thought it would be funny play a prank. SOB's. They expected this prank to go on for a week, but i called the DHS agent and got some info from him and nothing mentioned any firearms. I called em out on it and they had a good laugh. LOL. Dirty old bastards. Anyway thanks for all the opinions and replies everyone!
