For those of you that have recently bought .50 BMG or .50 DTC rifles or uppers and want to shoot, we'll be at Angeles Range on the 18th for our monthly shoot. If anyone else wants to come out and shoot you are more then welcome to join us.

Heck you might even get to shoot a .50 and get hooked, then the disease will infect you and you'll be looking to buy one.:D We show up early and set up at the far end of the rifle range as that's where they like us. Talk to me and I'll let you how to shoot there cheaper.

If your looking for help on setting up you new toy or looking for pointers just ask, we have a great collection of guys that know their stuff. Maybe I can finally get CSA to come out and join us.

I'll have to hit the press. Also, my AR50 stock is out being worked on so, I'll probably have to settle with bringing my ALS, a 1919 and a couple of small toys. I think my wife will be out of town so, I'll really try to make it.

I had heard they don't let you bang the steel at Angeles with a 50.

there is steel out to 700 yards at angeles. the one and only time I ever shot a .50 bmg was a guy at angeles who let me. I fired at the steel at 700. you wouldn't even know it was there if you didn't look thru the high power glass. so its the 16th not the 18th? thats good cuz I'm goin to check out the xcr.

They only allow the .50s to shoot at the RED painted targets.
Targets are set up at 400, 500, and 600 yards. The 700yd targets were removed due to fire danger.

Call in sick! It sounds like there's going to be a good turnout of 50s and other toys.

50 shooter,

My stepson is in 3 pictures on pgs 61&62. In the "match winners" picture, he's in a coonskin cap, next to me on the left, in the front row. In the next picture, he's the second shooter on the line next to Sheri R. On page 62, he's the one with the 50 grin. Well, he's the one that is not Lee R. I'll try to remember to bring my copy 'cause, I'm so proud of him that I can't stop bragging!

Darn, I got there a little too late.

I brought my little sister so a our group was teaching her the fundamentals of shooting.

Ben,
Thanks for dropping off that S&W 500 to mike and ken. I got the 50 yard steel ram pretty good a few times with that gun, and I thought the dang thing was gonna fall off it was shaking so much. Wished I coulda stopped by to say hi, but had to tend to my little sister.

I'll see you guys next time!

BOOOMM ,, damn those things are BIG ! especially the one on the tripod on the ground with the thumb buttons , i went but not for the 50'S , i had 4 virgin barrels to break in ,, and one , an ar-.22 had a few issues that were frustrating me , i heard randall was there so i went over to the 50 side to ask for some advice ,, he spent several minutes examining it and showed me what it needs , probably saving me hours of headaches and bent bullets , and i usually do pretty good on my own with these things ,, BIG THANKS !!! if your gun is having issues , this is the guy i would gladly pay if i needed gunsmithing service beyond my skills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you that inline 50 was a blast. My older son and i were shooting it pretty much non stop. It was doing very good too. I basicly wanted to try out a few different combinations. I had 4 different types of bullets and two different types of powders. So i had my hands full too. it was a lot of trial and error. trying to find the right combination. But we had a really good time. We blew off around 300 rounds of 22. 100 rounds of 30-30 and about 70 rounds of 50 cal.

Elroy i think you were sitting to the right of me. I had two boys with me. we would trade off between the 30-30 and the marlin 700. Yep saw you looking at the clips. Too bad you cant find them any more. I have 3 of those 15 round mags. I always keep a copy of a reciept with me too. Never know if someone is going to say something. Those magazines were all bought in the late 80's. Same with the rifle. That rifle has well over 10k rounds through it. I had to tear it apart when i got home. Now adays when it gets a little too dirty it starts to stick a bit and jams. All in all i can take that apart to the nuts and bolts in about 2 minutes. That ar22 looked pretty good. Where did you get that thing

Black Majik

yep , thats me , i have a marlin 60 so no mag 4 me , tube fed ,,, ive had it for about 20 yrs , i shot it a bit at first , then the ar 22 ,, its a bushmaster carbon 15 - 22 upper , i got it used/new here from a member , i think he had probs with his first , sent it back , then sold what they sent him , as far as i can tell it was new , you can find them on the web but listed as out of stock , BM may have discontinued this ??? at first it hardly worked , but with some lovin and trying different rounds i got it to feed several mags ,, had trouble gettin on the paper though , half the problem was the cheap red dot ,, to adjust it , i learned that while up means up , right means left ,, very tricky those chinese ,,, then i switched to my new armalite upper i got on the thanksgiving sale for 359$ ,, first it fed 60 rds of wally world's finest rem. 223 with no trouble , then to the pmc brass from turners sale ,, both were 7.50 for 20 ,,, had 3 minor ftfeeds but no bent bullets or anything terrible in 100 rds ,, and reasonably good accuracy too ,,, couldn,t really ask for more ,, then shot a 1934 remington model 33 a few rounds as i'd never fired it b4 ,, gave me no probs , as a bolt action should ,, then to the pistol side to try my brand new beretta neos .22 , got at turners for 199$ , the deal of the month , it ran 100% on 6 different types/brands of ammo , then on to the old colt 1911 govt.80 mk IV stainless , its allways 100% ,,, and on top of all that goodness , i got a fellow calgunner to carpool my butt out there ,, he had some nice toys too ,,, thanks petrole !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elroy,
I was very interested to hear about your problems with your .22 BM upper. I have one that I haven't played with yet and now I know what to look out for. We really should wear name Calguns' tags.

elroy
12-17-2007, 3:44 PM
or a calguns baseball hat ??? screen name on back ?? on the BM ar 22 it seems to have 2 sharp edges around the chamber and no feed ramp of any kind , the sharp edge catches hollow noses and bends bullets pretty good , when it does feed , it shaves off a tiny crecent shaped chip from the lead right where it swells to its full dia. , this lodges in the groove for the rim of the casing , between the 2 sharp edges , preventing the case from fully chambering , propping the bolt back just enough to interfere with the hammer strike so ftf. ,,, i'm all ready to make a feed ramp with a dremel , or at least break the sharp edges at the bottom of the chamber , but i figured i'd talk to BM tech support first , so i called today , someone listened to my long winded story and decided i needed to CB tomorrow and ask for jim ,, so i'll wait a day b4 attacking it , i,m sure hes been thru this a few times ,

elroy
12-17-2007, 3:52 PM
oh and the mags are finicky , they can let the bullet nose up too much and catch the top sharp edge wich bends the lead in half

If you have the old style mags, call BM. My upper did not come with a mag. So, I called BM to order one and was asked if I had the old one. I said no and she said that, since they had just redesigned the mag, she would send me a free replacement mag along with the mag I ordered. I got a twofer deal!

What's the scoop on these semi-auto M2 conversions? I've heard they are legal and not AW's because they are not shoulder-fired. If so, who will sell them to Californians? Who here will dros them?

50 Shooter

You can buy rifles chambered for .50 DTC which is a wildcatted case using the .50 BMG case as the parent. It uses all of the same bullets as the .50 BMG, the only thing you need to do is fireform your own brass.

MrKubota on the board who shoots with us also has his license to manufacture ammo. He makes .50 DTC for those who weren't lucky enough to purchase a .50 BMG rifle before the ban. He should be at the range on Sunday if you want to talk to him more about it. If he reads this, maybe he'll post the video of his M2 that's set up for .50 DTC.

As for the M2 in .50 BMG, it's still in that grey area as to it's legality here in CA. Some say yes, some say no, until the CA DOJ says yes (which they never will) you're better off getting a rifle in .50 DTC.

if not how many rifles can you bring up to the line?
can you bring your own metal target stands?
anyone know how to sight scopes in with few rounds?
im new to the whole scope thing and need to get my grendel figured out have it close at 100 but never put it on paper and i have no clue really how to mathmatically figure out to longer ranges without shooting first and then compensating on the dials

About $14 to shoot and rent a target stand.
There's a $4 refund if you don't shoot the stand.
You back your truck up to unload, then move it to the parking lot.
Lots of room for rifles on benches behind the line.
You just need a solid rest to sight-in with only a couple rounds.
Go find ballistic tables for your grendel load and print those out.
Bring them out and verify/adjust them to reality.
Then you will have valid dope for the conditions of the day.
Paper to 200yds tops, but there's steel to 600.
You can setup your own stands.
