Pete at "Bain and Davis" in San Gabriel does AWESOME work on 1911s. His family owns the business and they've been gun smithing for generations. Great guy, he's the man with the black beerd and usually wears black clothing. They are very nice people, not like most "know it all" gun shop. Highly Recommended!!! My Para is done by him!

+1 for Bain and Davis.

Kings was excellent when the old man was around, I cant speak for the quality of their current work, others have had concerns about turnaround times.

+2 for Bain and Davis.

Pete did a fix on my 1911A1 extractor and the pistol has been shooting reliably with no FTE since.

It's been a while since I've had him do any work for me, so I don't know if he's still around, but my vote would go to Jim Hoag in Canoga Park. A contemporary of Armand Swensen, he's considered by many a pioneer in 1911 smithing.

Jim Hoag got his start working for Al Capone no not the gangster. Al was better known as Kings Gun Works.

Were you the one at Angeles today with your friends shooting the Beretta and Glock? I was the one with the Baer.

There are a few great gunsmiths around the LA area. Jim Hoag and Alan Tanaka come highly regarded. Kings also does great work.

Can't really go wrong with Bain and Davis for general 1911 smithing. I had them work on my Kimber to make the trigger pull slightly heavier and they did a good job.

Good luck.

+3 for Dave's Metal Works.

+4 or 5.

He is good, and inexpensive. He did a competition P14 for me which turned out very nicely.

Hi Randall,

Pistol or rifle side? I was on pistol side from 12 - closing (pistol steel from 12 - 3:30, far end of pistols side at shotgun bay from 3:30 - closing)

Pistol or rifle side?

Rifle side from about 3:15 to 4:30 on the first 4 "rimfire only" benches.
Then we were over on the pistol side with a Smith 327 (8 shot scandium 357) and a High Standard 22 for 30 minutes until about 5pm when they closed the rifle line and we left.

Hey Vince,

I'll be at Angeles on Sunday, since that's when we usually go. Lemme know how you're Springfield turns out from B&D when you get it back. What work did you request to have done to it?

Cylinder and Slide everything else is just jac%&*g off. It's going to cost you but you can get a light trigger that isn't going to go away.
