Pugs are protected. And they don't taste very good...not a lot of meat on them bones...

You could try Wood's Humane Society in SLO. I've spotted them in there before.

Fort Hunter Liggett is good, hunted a lot of pig there in college.
Probably going there later this month... 1st time in 10 years!

On a normal year there is good pug hunting around Parkfield. There is also some public land there if you check a USGS or BLM map. Unfortunately, with this year's drought, the hunting in the area has been a little slow.

There are several dog shows around the state and lots of pugs. Make sure you bring your pug tag.

What's the optimum cartridge for pugs?
I would think that 22 magnum or 22 hornet would be quite good.

Is the pug call "here boy, here boy"?

Well, in all honesty, maybe the pug meat I had wasn't cooked right...I'm always up to try it again!:D

Poor pugs! you might have a hard time finding one of those since they are so smart. Smart enough to be living indoors, often in an actual bed or lounging on the family couch.

Does anyone carry a backup weapon when pug hunting? I carry a 44 mag when pig hunting, but that seems a little overkill for pug. I was thinking steel-toed boots would suffice.

My neighbor, Lee Hoi-chang, has some good pug recipes. This guy knows how to have a BBQ.

These should work:

You need the NIJ level P ankle protection ;)

:)

What kind of calls do you use for pug hunting? Decoys?

I've heard the males go nuts for something like this.

I stopped by Mad Ox Firearms this evening and there was huge herd of pugs there. I'm not going to tell anyone where James lives since I want to keep this herd to myself for my next hunting trip. I almost feel guilty since these pugs were jumping into my lap and it is almost too easy to walk them over to the freezer. However, anyone thinking of hunting this pug herd had better bring plenty of backup to fight off the local pug herder.

Bobula, I finally got to see the Kimber and it looks great. 10 days until I can actually play with it.

I'll give you a call before my next pig hunt. I usually hunt near Parkfield, sometimes on a guided hunt, but occasionally on BLM land in the area. The guided hunt costs $$$, but I sure love hanging out and drinking beer while someone field dresses the pigs about 10 times faster than I ever could.

Keep in mind that you'll need lead free ammo to hunt FHL.

Unless you have something unusual...

I've only found one source for 35 rem, and its pricey. I'll have top reload this one.

Just want to share these pics that I found in talonairgun.com. A guy shot a wild pig with his .22cal air rifle. I cannot believe but picture say it.

How did you manage to get that hog to sit still while you took its picture?

Camp Roberts is not to far from SLO. I've had decent results there.

Air rifle? More likely somebody dropped that rock on it's head;)
