View Full Version : Family Transfer Clarification - Pistol Grip Shotgun

I did about an hour of searching around CGN and CA DOJ and didn't find anything this specific.

I'm buying some long guns this year to gift to my two boys.

Last week I was tempted by the Mossberg 500 Pistol Grip Persuader (20" barrel & about 29" oal). I just picked them up today and I found a sticker (see attached photo) on the box stating (paraphrased) "...can ONLY be transferred to a person who is 21 years of age..." Also, I just noticed on the Turner's ad that it says must be 21 to purchase.

Bottom line: can I gift these shotguns to my two young boys (aged 6 and 4)?

btw - Ultimately I regret the pistol grip choice and plan to by a pistol grip buttstock (will this play a roll in the transfer)? Suggestions welcome.

A dealer is prohibited from transferring anything that isn't a longarm to someone under 21, a PGO shotgun is a 'title one other' and not technically a long gun.

Being that it's an interfamilial transfer and you don't need to use an FFL, there's no legal roadblock to giving them the guns.

Thanks. Anyone have a suggestion for a grip and/or buttstock?
